Warriors' offense struggles in loss to Hot Springs

RAPID CITY—Winner struggled to manufacture offense in the second half, allowing Hot Springs to pull away on Tuesday.

The No. 7 seed Bison blew open a three-point lead in the fourth quarter, taking down the 10th-seeded Warriors, 54-41, to advance to the Class B boys basketball state tournament. Hot Springs (20-3) takes on Pine Ridge on March 14 in Sioux Falls in the first round.

While holding Winner to just 14 points after the break, the Bison scored 16 points in the final quarter. Led by Kelton Harris' 22 points, the Bison shot 39 percent shooting and built on a 38-35 third-quarter lead.

Alex Bilbruck also added 11 points, while Morgan Harkless recorded five points and eight rebounds for the Bison.

Despite Winner (16-6) shooting 25 percent from the field and 3-for-19 from 3-point range, it managed an 18-point second quarter. However, Hot Springs still held a 28-27 lead at halftime.

Brady Fritz was the outlier for the Warriors, scoring 20 points. Despite the offensive struggles, the Warriors still found success on the glass. Brandon Volmer, Phillip Jorgensen and Tyson Westendorf all finished with six boards.
