SCW girls fall to De Smet in SoDak 16 contest

HURON—The Sanborn Central/Woonsocket girls basketball team couldn't prevent De Smet from securing a spot in the state tournament on Thursday.

The Bulldogs pulled away from the Blackhawks 64-35 to punch their ticket to the State B girls basketball tournament on March 7-9 at the Huron Arena. De Smet will play White River in the opening round of the state tournament.

Rynn Osthus led the Bulldogs to victory with 15 points, while Autumn Wilkinson added 14 points. Kennadi Buchholz scored 13. Kristen Poppen notched a 10 point, 12 rebound double-double for De Smet.

Megan Poyer led the way for SCW with 10 points and five rebounds, while Tesa Jensen scored eight. Kaylee White and Teya Moody chipped in four points apiece. The Blackhawks finish the season 16-7.
