Hanson Classic roundup: Hanson pulls away from Sully Buttes

Hanson built an early lead and hung on for a girls basketball win over Sully Buttes on Saturday during the Hanson Classic at the Corn Palace.
Elizabeth Arend finished with 13 points for the Beavers, who jumped ahead 10-2 after the first quarter. Mekiah Campbell added seven points and 11 rebounds. Hanson finished with 36 rebounds, compared to 32 by the Chargers.
Sully Buttes was led by Angela Guthmiller with eight points and four rebounds. The Chargers trailed 18-8 at halftime and cut the deficit to 19-15 in the third quarter, but the Beavers pulled away in the final frame.

Waubay/Summit 50, Avon 40
Zoey Wohlleber dropped in 23 points to power Waubay/Summit to a win over Avon in the opening Hanson Classic contest on Saturday.
Wohlleber added four steals and knocked down six 3-pointers. Alexis Hopkins chipped in with nine points. The Mustangs outrebounded the Pirates 22-15, with Emily Ollerich grabbed nine boards in the win. She added seven points.
For Avon, Shaylane Nagel notched a double-double with 12 points and 11 boards. Lauren Sees recorded 10 points and six rebounds.

Crofton (Neb.) 48, Flandreau 35
Kaley Einrem and Lacey Sprakel combined for 33 points to pace Crofton (Nebraska) to a girls basketball win over Flandreau during the Hanson Classic on Saturday at the Corn Palace.
Kaley Einrem tossed in 20 points to pace Crofton. Lacey Sprakel finished with 13 points and 14 rebounds.
For Flandreau, Hannah Parsley recorded 19 points and 11 rebounds. Marianna Palvis chipped in with nine points and four steals.

Irene-Wakonda 35, Tripp-Delmont/Armour 32
Irene-Wakonda overcame an 11-point first-quarter deficit and picked up a three-point win against Tripp-Delmont/Armour at the Hanson Classic on Saturday at the Corn Palace.
Shannon Sokolowski led the Eagles with 10 points and seven rebounds. Kaylen Knodel finished with nine points and Malloy O’Malley tossed in eight points.
For TDA, Mattilynn Reiner netted 13 points and collected seven rebounds. Ashlee Gerber recorded eight points and 11 boards.

Freeman 46, Faulkton Area 42
Freeman outscored Faulkton 14-7 in the fourth quarter and earned a four-point victory over Faulkton Area at the Hanson Classic on Saturday at the Corn Palace.
Hannah Eberts led Freeman with 19 points, six rebounds and five steals. Josie Fuhrmann added nine points and hit four free throws in the final 33 seconds to seal the win.
Taylor Cramer and Grace Schlechter scored nine points apiece for Faulkton Area.

Four players scored in double figures to power Dell Rapids to a win over Pine Ridge during the Hanson Classic on Saturday at the Corn Palace.
Aspen Hansen finished with 22 points and five rebounds. Jayda Knupp tossed in 21 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Emma Paul finished with 13 points and eight boards. Ravyn Hoffman finished with 10 points and eight rebounds.
Pine Ridge’s Shayla Bravo recorded 22 points, while Kateri Watson had eight points.

Lennox withstood a late Miarin Duffy 3-pointer and edged St. Thomas More in overtime during the Hanson Classic at the Corn Palace.
Madysen Vlastuin paced the Orioles with 20 points, while Riley Peters netted 14 points and Rianna Fillipi scored 13 points.
Haleigh Timmer tossed in 18 points and Ciara Benson scored 13 points. Lizzy Elder added 11.
