DWU men fall to Morningside in GPAC semifinals

SIOUX CITY, Iowa -- The Dakota Wesleyan University men’s basketball team was eliminated from the Great Plains Athletic Conference tournament on Saturday.

The Tigers will now learn their NAIA Division II tourney fate on Wednesday.

DWU lost to Morningside College 89-59 in the GPAC semifinals. Morningside College plays Northwestern College in the GPAC title game on Tuesday in Sioux City, Iowa.

On Saturday, DWU (22-10) was paced by Aaron Ahmadu with 15 points, while Collin Kramer scored 14 points and four 3-pointers. Jason Spicer added 10 points and five assists.

The Tigers trailed for the entire contest and fell behind 44-22 at halftime. The Mustangs, who shot 61 percent from the field, maintained a comfortable advantage in the second half.

Morningside (26-5) shot 14-for-26 from the 3-point line and collected 34 rebounds, compared to 21 by DWU.

Tyson Smiley added eight points for DWU and started his fourth straight game for Ty Hoglund, who’s been out with a foot injury.

Tyler Borchers paced Morningside with 15 points.
