The Mitchell 15/16s swept a doubleheader against Winner/Colome Sunday at Drake Field, but needed a walk-off by Lukas Bennett to do so.
Mitchell defeated Winner/Colome 11-3 in the first game and then Bennett’s walk-off secured an 8-7 win.
In Game 1, Mitchell (18-14) scored seven runs in the fifth inning to pull away. Connor Singray, Gavin Soukup and Lincoln Bates each had two RBIs, while Bennett had two hits. Blake Brosz had an RBIs.
Landon Waddell did not allow an earned run on two hits and struck out 12 in a complete-game win.
Winner/Colome’s Browdy Kocer gave up six earned runs on four hits and five walks.
Mitchell jumped out to a 6-3 lead in Game 2, but Winner/Colome seized the lead with a four-run fourth inning. Karter Sibson knotted the game with an RBI single in the bottom of the fourth, setting up Bennett’s game-winning double in the fifth.
Sibson had two hits and two RBIs, while Peyton Mandel and Bennett both had two hits and an RBI. Colin Stange, Waddell and Soukup all drove in runs.
Slade Cournoyer drove in two runs for Winner/Colome (14-7), while Jack Peters, Aiden Barfuss and Charley Pravecek each had an RBI.
