ABERDEEN — The Mitchell Post 18 Legion baseball team had its strongest offensive performance of the season Friday night, sweeping Aberdeen at Fossum Field.

Post 18 won a pair of shootouts, emerging with a 13-9 victory in Game 1 and a 16-12 triumph in Game 2, snapping a four-game losing streak.

In the opener, Mitchell smashed its way to a 7-0 lead through the first five innings and then had to hold on late when both teams scored five runs in the seventh inning. Post 18 had 12 hits, paced by three hits and three runs scored by Dylan Soulek, including a triple. Parker Bollinger had two hits and two RBIs, while Ryan McGinnis had a triple and two RBIs. Carson Fahey scored twice and drove in three runs. Riley McGinnis and Jonah Schmidt each had two RBIs, and Seth Muth had two hits and two runs.

Landon Waddell was the winning pitcher in Game 1, throwing 5 2/3 innings and allowing three hits, three runs and six walks, while striking out four. Jackson Ebert earned the final four outs for Mitchell, allowing four hits, six runs (one earned) and striking out two.

In Game 2, Mitchell never trailed, leading 7-4 following the third inning and scoring eight runs in the fourth inning, only to see the Smittys respond with seven total runs between the fourth and fifth frames to make it 15-11. Mitchell added another run in the sixth inning for Post 18’s most runs scored in a single game this season.

Soulek continued his hot hitting with three hits and three RBIs, while Brock Sparks posting three hits and three RBIs. Jonah Schmidt had three hits with two RBIs and Mason Geraets drove in three runs. Jake Helleloid and Parker Bollinger each had two hits and drove in a pair of runs. Ryan McGinnis had three runs, three walks and three of Mitchell’s seven stolen bases.

Jace Larson was the winning pitcher for Mitchell in Game 2, throwing four innings and allowing 10 hits and nine runs with two strikeouts. Dylan Soulek threw the final three innings, allowing one hit, three runs (one earned) and striking out five.

The two teams will see each other again in Mitchell in a week’s time. Aberdeen, which dropped to 8-20 on the season, will come to Cadwell Park for a triangular with Yankton Post 12 on Friday, June 25. Mitchell and Aberdeen will play the leadoff game at 1 p.m., with Post 18 and Yankton to play at 5 p.m., following Aberdeen/Yankton at 3 p.m.

Up next, Post 18 (8-15) will host Brandon Valley in a 5 p.m. doubleheader Tuesday at Cadwell Park.
