ORANGE CITY, Iowa -- Dakota Wesleyan University split a weekend baseball doubleheader with Northwestern College on Saturday. The Tigers earned a 14-4 victory in second game, while they lost 9-2 in the first game.
In Game 2, Drew DeMers hit an RBI double and Dalton Wilcoxen added a two-run home run to put the Tigers up 6-0 after two innings. Wilcoxen added an RBI double in the Tigers' 2-run fourth and an 8-0 lead. Luke LeMay led off the fifth inning with a solo home run. DWU put the game away with a five-run 8th inning. Tyler Torres hit a two-run double and Wilcoxen hit an RBI double
Jared Jones scattered 10 hits over seven innings and struck out six batters to earn the win.
Drew DeMers went 3 of 4 and drove in two runs. Wilcoxen finished 3 of 5 and knocked in four runs.
In Game 1, DWU scored an unearned run in the top of the first on a single by Cameron Quigley who came across after a sacrifice fly from LeMay. Northwestern’s Colton Harold tied the game with a solo home run in the bottom of the first.
Joseph Hanisch singled home the Tigers second run, scoring Torres who reached base on a double to start the second inning.
Northwestern went ahead for good with a five-run, third inning on a grand slam and solo home run. DWU was led by Cameron Quigley with two hits. Seth Christiansen (1-2) took the loss, pitching the first three innings.
The Tigers play at Jamestown on Saturday in a doubleheader.
