ALEXANDRIA -- Alexandria scored five runs in the bottom of the second inning to roll post Mount Vernon 9-5 on Sunday in Sunshine League action.

Jarrod Zens hit a two-run single, while the Angels tacked on three unearned runs in the second to take an early advantage. Tyson Gau added an RBI double in the fourth before the Mustangs could get on the board in the fifth inning.

Gau also went the distance on the mound, allowing five unearned runs on three hits, while striking out nine batters to secure the win. Zens finished 2-for-4 with three RBIs, while Michael Schoettmer drove in two runs. Jordan Gau went 2-for-5 with an RBI.

Spencer Neugebauer went 2-for-4 and drove in a run for the Mustangs, while Briggs Havlik had two RBIs. Tate Deinert and Bradley Dean each had an RBI. Deric Denning took the loss, allowing eight earned runs on 11 hits and five walks.

Alexandria (12-2) plays Dimock-Emery on Thursday in Emery. Mount Vernon (12-5) plays Corsica/Stickney on Thursday in Corsica.

Winner/Colome 9, Platte 2

WINNER -- Dillon Lambley drove in four runs and Connor Hopkins struck out 11 as Winner/Colome topped Platte on Sunday in Sunshine League play.

After the Killer Tomatoes took a 1-0 lead on an error in the top of the fourth, the Pheasants responded in the bottom of the inning with three runs. Following a bases-loaded walk, Lambley knocked in a two-run single to center field with two outs.

Lambley would drive in two more runs on a single in the fifth to pad the lead before Zach Harter added a two-out, two-run triple.

Meanwhile, Hopkins allowed one earned run on nine hits and four walks in the complete-game victory. Lambley finished 2-for-5, while Reed Harter was also 2-for-5 with two RBIs. Brendan Kamerzell and Austin Calhoon had two hits apiece.

Michael Buitenbos went 3-for-5 for Platte in defeat, while Hayden Kuiper accounted for the team’s lone RBI. Tait Sibbel had two hits. Derek Soukup took the loss, allowing five earned runs on nine hits and five walks in 5 2/3 innings of work.

Winner/Colome (11-2) hosts Corsica/Stickney on Tuesday in Winner. Platte (6-8) travels to Parkston on Thursday.

Plankinton 10, Colome 3

COLOME -- Plankinton clung to a 3-2 lead in the second inning when Chris Hill launched a ball over right field and they never looked back in a Pony Hills League win over Colome on Sunday.

Hill and Alex Loes both had two hits and two RBIs, while Josh Engquist scattered five hits over seven innings, striking out 12 and surrendering one earned run. Loes struck out six of seven batters faced in two innings of relief and Engquist added two hits. Cole Knippling, Travis Grant and Trevor Boyd each had an RBI.

Jackson Kinzer gave up six earned runs on eight hits in nine innings, while striking out 12 for the Chaos in defeat. Carter Brickman and Turner Tinant also had RBIs.

Plankinton (11-4) faces Miller on Thursday at Cadwell Park. Colome (5-6) travels to Kimball/White Lake on Thursday.

Tabor 5, Yankton Lakers 0

TABOR -- Mace Merkwan and Chase Kortan combined to strike out 10 batters on seven hits without allowing a run in Tabor’s South Central League win over Yankton on Sunday.

Kortan also had two hits at the plate, including a solo home run to center in the bottom of the fifth inning. Austin White went 2-for-4 with two RBIs, while Cole Uecker knocked in a run as well.

Sam Mooney went 3-for-3 for the Lakers in the loss and Jordan Kathol gave up three earned runs on seven hits and stuck out five over seven innings.

Tabor (13-3) travels to the Yankton Tappers on Tuesday. Yankton (9-8) travels to Crofton, Nebraska on Tuesday.

Canova 18, Dell Rapids Mudcats 3

DELL RAPIDS -- Three different Millers hit home runs as Canova routed the Dell Rapids Mudcats in seven innings on Sunday in Cornbelt League play.

Jared Miller went 2-for-5 with five RBIs, including a grand slam, while Justin Miller was 3-for-3 with three RBIs and a home run and Derek Miller was 2-for-3 with three RBIs and a home run as the Gang totaled 16 hits.

Kalub Carmichel drove in two runs, while Tim Genzlinger, Kendall Gassman and Tim Gassman each had an RBI. Trey Krier did not allow an earned run in seven innings, while surrendering five hits and striking out five. He also drove in a run at the plate.

Jimmy Bauer had a pair of RBIs, while Kris King also had an RBI for the Mudcats. Dalton Allen allowed five earned runs on 11 hits in four innings.

Canova (10-3) travels to Salem on Monday.
