COLOME -- Colome scored 10 runs in the final three innings to take down Four Corners, 12-2, in eight innings in Pony Hills League action on Thursday.
Shea Connot went 2-for-4 with a triple and three RBIs. Jackson Kinzer added three hits, two walks and a pair of RBIs. Carter Brickman earned the win, as he fanned seven batters and held Four Corners to two earned runs on seven hits.
Noah Hainey suffered the loss, giving up four earned runs on three hits and four walks. J.D. Farley drove in two runs and Brad Hand recorded two hits.
Colome (4-4, 4-3 Pony Hills) travels to Parkston on Sunday. Four Corners (1-4, 1-4 Pony Hills) plays South Central on July 9 in Gregory.
Mount Vernon 8, Parkston 2 (10 innings)
PARKSTON -- For the second time in three days, Mount Vernon outlasted Parkston in an extra-inning Sunshine League amateur baseball game.
Two days after the Mustangs defeated the Mudcats 4-3 in 12 innings, Mount Vernon topped them again in extra innings. Mount Vernon plated six runs in the 10th inning to come away with an 8-2 victory on Thursday.
Cameron Deinert finished with two of Mount Vernon’s nine hits. Bradley Dean, Briggs Havlik, Spencer Neugebauer, Deric Denning, Austin Graves, Luke Tiesler and Tate Deinert each added a hit. Dean picked up the win. He scattered nine hits, struck out five batters and allowed two runs (one earned) in 8 1/3 innings.
For Parkston, Jeff Harris and Spencer Freudenthal each had two hits. Freudenthal also belted a solo home run to even the score at 2-2 in the sixth inning.
Spencer Lucas, Matt Malloy, Pat Harris, Dawson Semmler and Jared Donahue each had a hit. Jake Weber took the loss. He allowed six hits, five earned runs and struck out seven batters in nine innings.
Mount Vernon (12-2, 6-2 Sunshine League) plays Winner/Colome on July 7 in Winner. Parkston (7-6, 3-4 Sunshine League) hosts Winner/Colome on Sunday.
Tabor 10, Scotland 0 (7 innings)
TABOR -- Tabor tossed a combined shutout to top Scotland in seven innings of South Central League action on Thursday.
Brandon Kemp and Zach Sutera held Scotland to three hits in the shutout win. Brandon Kemp struck out four in a six-inning start. Chase Kortan and Beau Rothschadl both homered in the win. Christian Uecker hit two doubles during his 3-for-3 outing, while Kortan and Cole Uecker, who drove in two runs, both doubled once.
Scotland finished with three hits and three walks. It recorded six strikeouts on the mound.
Tabor (10-1, 10-1 South Central) travels to Wynot (Neb.) on Sunday. Scotland (0-10, 0-10 South Central) hosts Irene on Sunday.
Weather wipes out trio of games
The inclement weather forced a couple of cancellations on Thursday’s amatuer baseball slate. Dimock/Emery and Platte’s contest was moved to 8 p.m. on July 7 in Emery. Plankinton’s game against South Central at Cadwell Park was also called off. Dell Rapids and Salem had their game postponed, with no makeup date announced.
