The South Dakota VFW baseball executive committee officially announced on Monday that it will hold the 2020 SD VFW state baseball tournaments.

The SD VFW is asking for teams to abide by local state and national COVID-19 policies and have insurance and permission from city or school officials to play. Local COVID-19 policies may cause location changes, while the VFW said it could make adjustments to the classes in each age division based on the amount of registered teams.

The state tournaments take place in mid-July through early August. That includes Class A 14-and-under playing at Chamberlain on July 17-19. Canova hosts the Class B 16-and-under division on July 31 through August 2 and Salem hosts the 10-and-under division on July 10-12.

The SD VFW also stepped in to host a state tournament for the Class B Legion baseball teams this summer after the state rid itself of administration duties, despite it sanctioning a season. It will complete region play by July 31. The state tournament will be the same format as its 16-and-under division, with eight teams qualifying for the state tournament in Bryant on August 7-9.
