WINNER-Alexandria outlasted Sunshine League foe Winner/Colome 9-8 in an amateur baseball contest on Tuesday. The teams combined for 31 hits and 10 extra-base hits.

Alexandria finished with 14 hits, with Cole Wenande, Tyson Gau, Matt Wilber, Chris Marek and Jordan Gau recording two apiece. Peyton Smith, John Greicar, Reid Smith and Jerrod Zens each had a hit.

The Angels erupted for four innings in the second inning, which was highlighted by Greicar's three-run double. Alexandria padded its advantage to 7-0 after the third frame.

The Pheasants responded with seven runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. But Winner/Colome managed just one more run the rest of the way.

Ethan Davis was the winning pitcher for the Angels. He went 7.1 innings, allowing eight runs on 16 hits, striking out nine and walking one. Tyson Gau threw 1.2 innings in relief, recording the last five outs to earn the save.

For Winner/Colome, Derek Graesser, Dillon Lambley and Chandler Bakley finished with three hits apiece. Austin Calhoon recorded two doubles. Zach Harter and Austin Richey added two hits each. J.J. Farner and Riley Calhoon each had a hit.

Connor Hopkins took the loss. He surrendered 12 hits, nine runs (six earned), struck out 10 batters and issued five walks in 7.2 innings.

Alexandria (5-4, 4-1 Sunshine League) hosts Parkston on Thursday. Winner/Colome (3-2, 3-2 Sunshine League) hosts Corsica-Stickney on Thursday.

Canova 6, Humboldt/Hartford Woodducks 3

MONTROSE-Cole Gassman mowed down 14 batters in seven innings as Canova defeated Humboldt/Hartford in Cornbelt League play on Tuesday.

Offensively, Kendall Gassman had two hits and knocked in three runs.

Canova (8-2, 7-0 Cornbelt League) plays at Flandreau on Thursday.
