PIERRE-Mitchell junior Legion didn't allow a run on Tuesday in its doubleheader sweep of Pierre. Mitchell took down Pierre 10-0 in five innings in Game 1, then earned an 11-0 win in six innings to complete the twin bill.
Jonah Schmidt struck out four batters in Game 1 as he tossed a complete-game shutout. Pierre only managed two hits and three walks against Schmidt, who also went 1-for-3 with two RBIs at the plate.
Mitchell, which had 11 hits, jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the second inning. It tacked on five more runs in the fourth, highlighted by a two-RBI double from Parker Bollinger. He had two doubles and four RBIs, while Jake Helleloid, Tate Ellwein and Carson Fahey all had two hits for Mitchell, as well.
Collin Brueggeman allowed 10 runs (three earned) and walked three batters to take the loss.
Tate DeBoer and Helleloid combined to toss a shutout in the second game, allowing six hits and striking out four batters between the two. DeBoer had three of those strikeouts in his three-inning start.
At the plate, Jacob Schumacher capped Mitchell's five-run first inning with an RBI single. He finished with three hits and a pair of RBIs. Josh Grosdidier and Schmidt both added a pair of hits, too, leading to Spencer Letellier taking the loss after giving up seven runs (three earned) in a 1 2/3-inning start.
Mitchell (10-6) plays in the Renner Post 307 tournament on Friday.
