Mitchell Black drops two against Pierre
The Mitchell Black teener baseball team was swept against Pierre on Wednesday at Drake Field. Mitchell was defeated 12-6 in Game 1 and 15-6 in Game 2.
In Game 1, Mitchell spotted Pierre a 9-0 advantage after three innings and could never recover. Mitchell Black did cut the deficit to 9-4 after scoring four runs in the fourth inning. Tanner Puetz, Connor Hohn, Dylan Soulek and Noah Larson each recorded an RBI during the frame. Pierre kept Mitchell scoreless until it recorded two runs in the seventh inning on a Lukas Bennett two-run single.
Mitchell finished with 14 hits, but left 11 runners stranded on base. Bennett, Hohn, Soulek, Camen Max and Carter Miller each had two hits. Miller started and went two innings, allowing seven runs on five hits and striking out two.
In Game 2, Pierre scored four runs in the first, third and fourth innings. Mitchell scored four of its five runs in the fifth inning. Max finished a two-run single for Mitchell. Bennett and Hudson Haley each had two hits and an RBI. Soulek pitched the first two innings. He allowed three hits and nine runs over two innings, striking out two.
Mitchell plays at Watertown today in a 5 p.m. doubleheader.
