Mitchell White bounced back on Wednesday to take one game of a doubleheader. It fell to Huron 5-3 in Game 1, then took the second game 4-1.
In Game 2, Karter Sibson, Lincoln Bates and Thaden Auch each had a hit as Mitchell (4-5) was held to three as a team. Mitchell was helped by five Huron errors. Peyton Mandel drove in a pair of runs, while Bates also recorded an RBI, helping Mitchell take a 2-0 lead by the third inning.
Nic Moller struck out three in a three-inning start to earn the win for Mitchell. Colin Stange tossed the final three frames, giving up an unearned run on two hits.
A pair of errors to start the fifth inning gave life to Huron in Game 1. CJ Gainey hit a game-tying double off Mitchell starter Mandel in the next at-bat, followed by Huron scoring on an error and groundout to take a 5-3 lead in a four-run frame.
Mitchell, which was held to four hits, had no answer. Gavin Soukup drew a leadoff walk in the sixth, but it failed to push him into scoring position. Huron held Mitchell to one run after the first inning.
Bates had one of Mitchell's four hits as he also drove in a pair of runs. Mandel nearly went the distance, but allowed five runs (two earned) and suffered the loss in 4 2/3 innings. He also struck out three.
Layne Wenzel struck out two over three scoreless frames to earn the win for Huron.
