Amateur baseball: Raptors rally to upend Gang
CANOVA—Dimock-Emery picked the right time for an offensive spurt.
Trailing Canova 8-6 going into the bottom of the eighth inning, the Raptors scored six runs en route to a 12-8 win in amateur baseball action on Tuesday.
The Gang allowed five walks and two hits in the eighth, along with a go-ahead RBI ground ball by Gene Kitchens. Sam Pischke also added a two-run double to pad the lead.
Canova had previously broken a 6-6 tie in the top half of the inning on an RBI double by Justin Miller and an RBI single by Kendall Gassman.
Pischke finished 4-for-5 with four RBIs, while Cade Schmitt was 1-for-3 and drove in three runs. Sam Arend also collected two hits and an RBI for the Raptors. Pischke also earned the win after tossing two scoreless innings of relief. Jared Schmidt started the game and allowed six runs on 13 hits in 6 2/3 innings of work.
Derek Miller led Canova with a 3-for-4 night that included three RBIs, including a solo home run in the third. Cole Gassman also went 3-for-4 as the Gang totaled 17 hits in defeat.
Four Canova pitchers combined to allow eight earned runs on nine hits and nine walks.
Dimock-Emery (7-2) plays at Wynot, Nebraska, on Thursday. Canova (6-2) hosts the Dell Rapids Mudcats on Thursday.
Alexandria 9, Parkston 3
PARKSTON—Tyson Gau's 13 strikeouts and Chris Marek's three-run homer powered Alexandria to a Sunshine League victory over Parkston on Tuesday.
Gau earned the win for Alexandria. He scattered nine hits, allowed three earned runs and issued zero walks in the complete-game performance.
Marek had two hits for the balanced offensive attack. He blasted his three-run homer as part of Alexandria six runs in the fifth inning.
Mason Mayer collected three hits, including an RBI single in the fifth inning. Reid Smith finished with two hits and also had an RBI single. Peyton Smith, Cole Wenande, Gau and Jerrod Zens each had a hit. Zens also drove in a run and Matt Wilber also recorded an RBI.
For Parkston, Dan Bonte finished with four of the nine hits. He recorded three doubles. Cody Freudenthal collected two hits. Jeff Harris, Spencer Freudenthal and Dylan Mogck each had a hit. Spencer Freudenthal had two RBIs.
Brady Nolz was tagged with the loss. He surrendered nine hits, nine runs (seven earned), struck out eight batters and issued three walks in seven innings.
Alexandria (3-4, 2-1 Sunshine League) plays Corsica-Stickney on Sunday in Corsica. Parkston (5-3, 3-2 Sunshine League) hosts Harrisburg on Thursday.
