EMERY-Parkston scored five runs in the top of the eighth inning to secure a come-from-behind win over Dimock/Emery 10-8 on Thursday in Sunshine League baseball play.
Trailing 8-5, the Mudcats launched back-to-back home runs to take the lead. Spencer Lucas started with a grand slam to left field and Spencer Freudenthal came back to hit a solo blast to right field on the next at-bat.
Lucas finished the day 3-for-5 with eight RBIs, while Brady Nolz struck out seven batters in four perfect innings of relief on the mound.
Phil Johnson went 3-for-3 with two RBIs, including a home run for the Raptors, Jared Schmidt, Jason Schmidt and Sam Pischke each added a pair of RBIs.
Johnson and Drew Kitchens both surrendered five earned runs apiece on the mound as the Raptors gave up 16 hits.
Parkston (4-2) plays Corsica/Stickney on Sunday in Corsica. Dimock/Emery (5-2) plays Platte on Sunday in Emery.
Winner/Colome 15, Platte 0
PLATTE-Winner/Colome's offense couldn't be contained on Thursday as it racked up five extra-base hits to top Platte in a five-inning Sunshine League game.
Zach Harter hit a two-run home run in the fifth inning as part of his four-RBI day. Derek Graesser went 3-for-4 with two RBIs, while Austin Calhoon and Dillion Lambley both had two hits. Lambley drove in a trio of runs, too. On the mound, JJ Farner struck out six as he tossed five shutout innings for the Pheasants.
Pat Veurink suffered the loss as he was hit hard for 15 runs (11 earned) on 12 hits in is five-inning start. Michael Buitenbos had two of the Killer Tomatoes' four hits.
Winner/Colome (2-0) hosts Alexandria today in Winner. Platte (1-2) plays Dimock/Emery on Sunday in Emery.
Salem 4, Humboldt/Hartford 2
SALEM-In Cornbelt League action, Salem plated three runs in the sixth inning to get past Humboldt/Hartford on Thursday.
Brian Duxbury, Collin Cleveland and Isaac Anderson all had two hits for the Cubs, who recorded 10 as a team. Anderson also drove in a pair of runs. Tyler Earls tossed a complete game for Salem, allowing two runs (one earned) on six hits, while striking out seven.
Salem (2-3) hosts Dell Rapids PBR on Sunday.
Plankinton 5, Four Corners 0
PLANKINTON-Plankinton scored all of its runs in the first four innings to pick up a shutout win over Four Corners in Pony Hills League action.
Travis Gant also kept Four Corners off the board by tossing a complete-game four-hitter that saw him fan 16 batters with one walk.
Gant also started the scoring with a two-run single in the bottom of the first, while Chris Hill added a pair of hits and drove in a pair of runs. Orric Earl drove in a run for the Bankers as well.
Hill and Alex Loes both finished 2-for-4 at the plate.
Adam Kaus took the loss on the mound for Four Corners, surrendering two earned runs (three unearned) on seven hits in 6 1/3 innings of work.
Plankinton (3-1) hosts Wessington Springs on Sunday. Four Corners hosts South Central on Sunday in Hayes.
Colome 8, Chamberlain 7 (11 innings)
COLOME-Once on the verge of defeat in the bottom of the ninth inning, Colome battled back to defeat Chamberlain on a walk-off single by Jacob Beckers in the 11th inning in Pony Hills League play.
The Chaos trailed 5-2 heading into the bottom of the ninth, but tied the game three consecutive singles by Dave Baker, Josh Herman and Andrew Laprath. Chamberlain would take a 7-5 lead in the 10th on a pair of errors, but Colome tied it once again on RBIs by Ethan Vobr and Kory Foss.
Herman went 3-for-5, while Foss was 2-for-5 with three RBIs. Jake Luse allowed four earned runs (three unearned) in 10 innings, while striking out 18. Vobr picked up the win after fanning two in one inning.
Cole Hickey was 3-for-6 with three RBIs, while Colton Anderson went 3-for-5 with an RBI. Mike Schwartz went the distance on the mound giving up two earned runs (six unearned) on 15 hits and struck out 14.
Colome (1-2) hosts Miller on Sunday. Chamberlain hosts Kimball/White Lake on Sunday.
