Winner/Colome outlasts St. Thomas More in Region 4B title tilt

YANKTON—Oscar Pravecek's two-run double lifted Winner/Colome to a 5-3 win over St. Thomas More in the Region 4B championship game on Wednesday.

Trailing 3-2 in the top of the seventh, Pravecek's double to center field plated Jacob Beckers and Phillip Jorgensen for the go-ahead runs. Jackson Kinzer later stole home for an insurance run. Kinzer then retired the side to secure the victory in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Both teams will now play in the Class B state tournament on Monday at the Sioux Falls Stadium. Winner/Colome plays Redfield Area at 1 p.m. in the second game, while St. Thomas More plays Madison at 5 p.m. in the tourney's third contest.

Bon Homme/Scotland battles Lennox at 11 a.m. in the opening game. West Central takes on Dakota Valley at 7 p.m. in the final game on Monday.

In the Region 4B title game, Jacob Beckers lasted four innings, allowing four hits and one run while striking out one. Evan Farner pitched two innings of relief, giving up two hits, two earned runs and striking out three batters. Kinzer finished with three strikeouts in his one inning of relief.

The Royals racked up seven hits, with Pravecek finishing 3-for-4 at the plate. Kinzer finished 2-for-2. Jorgensen and Tyler Olson each had a hit.

Winner/Colome 2, Gregory/Burke 0

YANKTON—Jackson Kinzer threw a complete-game gem for Winner/Colome, sending the Royals past Gregory/Burke, 2-0, on Wednesday and into the Class B state tournament.

The right-hander delivered nine strikeouts and only allowed two hits over seven innings. The Royals' offense was held to two runs on five hits, with Shea Connot going 1-for-2 with an RBI. Layton Thieman also hit a double, while Justin Beckers scored on an error.

Coy Determan and Evan Juracek both had a hit for Gregory/Burke. Aaron Sundquist suffered the loss, allowing an earned run in 3 1/3 innings. He also struck out three. Determan tossed the final 2 2/3 innings, striking out four and giving up an unearned run.
