Amateur baseball roundup: Offense powers Alexandria past Salem
MONTROSE—The Alexandria Angels scored at least one run in six innings en route to a 9-3 amateur baseball victory over the Salem Cubs on Monday.
Chris Marek, Matt Wilber and Wenande finished with two hits in the win. Wenande and Wilber both knocked in two runs apiece. Reid Smith, Tyson Gau, Jordan Gau, Peyton Smith and Mason Mayer each had a hit.
Tyson Gau earned the win. He lasted four innings, allowing three hits and two runs while striking out five and walking one.
Cory Struck finished with two of Salem's eight hits. Chris Housely, Jon Forster, Cole Cheeseman, David Novak, Trevor Wilkinson and Tyler Cleveland each added a hit.
Alexandria (1-0) plays at Canova on Thursday. Salem plays Dimock-Emery on Wednesday in Emery.
Dimock-Emery 10, Sioux Falls Saints 7
EMERY—Jared Schmidt pounded three doubles that resulted in four RBIs as Dimock-Emery toppled the Sioux Falls Saints, 10-7, on Monday in amateur baseball action.
The Raptors fell behind 6-2 after the Saints put together a five-run third inning, but Tyson Kayser started the comeback with a two-run home run to left field in the fourth, while Schmidt added an RBI double in the fifth and Phil Johnson scored on an error on the next at-bat to tie the game. Back-to-back RBI singles by Jason Schmidt and Johnson, along with an RBI double by Johnson put Dimock-Emery up for good in the sixth.
Sam Pischke grabbed the win on the mound after not allowing a run on two hits in two innings of relief.
Dimock-Emery (2-0) hosts Salem on Wednesday in Emery.
