Kernel baseball splits doubleheader with Yankton
YANKTON—Behind a strong pitching performance by Jared Miller, the Mitchell High School baseball team picked up a Game 1 victory over Yankton during a high school doubleheader on Saturday.
Miller allowed no runs, two hits and struck out nine batters in six innings of the 4-0 win over the Bucks. Yankton won the second game, 7-0.
Peyton Nash recorded three of Mitchell's eight hits, while Carson Max had two hits. Drew Kitchens, Austin Kerr and Jackson Sadler all had a hit.
Koby Larson fanned two batters in one inning relief.
The Kernels didn't commit an error, while the Bucks had three in the loss. Yankton's Ethan Wishon and Miles Carda each had a hit. Michael Drotzmann took the loss. He lasted four innings, allowing three runs on three hits and struck out four batters.
In Game 2, Yankton's Kieran Luellman kept Mitchell off the scoreboard as he struck out 11 batters and gave up hit one in the shutout. Kerr had the lone hit for the Kernels.
Calvin Hegg took the loss, lasting two innings, allowing three hits and four runs.
Mitchell (7-1) plays at Sioux Falls O'Gorman at 6 p.m. on Monday.
