Tigers pound out 24 hits in sweep of Dordt
SIOUX FALLS—Dakota Wesleyan University earned a Great Plains Athletic Conference sweep on the baseball diamond Friday, taking both games of a double dip against Dordt College at Ronken Field in Sioux Falls.
The Tigers pounced on Dordt in the first game, 12-1 in seven innings, while coming from behind to take the second to win 9-5.
DWU (9-11, 4-2 GPAC) fell behind 1-0 in the first game, but rallied to score six runs in the bottom of the second as Chandler Bakley hit a two-run single, while Winner native Drew DeMers and Heith Miller had RBI singles. Former Colome standout Reed Harter also added an RBI on a groundout.
DeMers finished the game 2-for-3 with two RBIs, while Harter was 1-for-2 with two RBIs. Mitchell native Landon Neugebauer also drove in a run.
Dominique Boerger got the win on the mound, allowing one run on four hits and striking out eight in six innings of work.
In the second game, DWU spotted Dordt (3-10, 0-6) two runs in the first inning, but scored three in the fifth and blew the game open with five runs in the eighth.
DeMers continued his hot hitting by going 3-for-4, while Bakley added two more RBIs and Harter drove in another run for the Tigers.
Ethan Davis picked up the win, giving up two runs on 10 hits over seven innings on the hill.
The Tigers are slated to host Concordia in a doubleheader at 1 p.m. on Sunday at Drake Field.
