TABOR — The offense did the job for the Tabor Post 183 Legion baseball team Sunday and Bryce Scieszinski and his defense took care of the rest.

Scieszinski held Parkston to just two hits and the Bluebirds scratched out eight hits and benefitted from four errors in a 10-0 win over Parkston in five innings, advancing to the Class B state tournament on Friday in Redfield.

Tabor (19-4), which has a number of players from the Class B high school championship earlier this year, will play McCook/Miner at 4:30 p.m. Friday in the first round.

"We've got a good defensive team and I only had a few strikeouts," said Scieszinski, who struck out four. "We know that if we're aggressive, we'll get the offense going.

Tabor didn't get the scoring started until the third inning, when Parkston helped the Bluebirds with three errors. Scieszinski had a two-RBI double and a third run scored on a throwing error. In the fourth inning, Mace Merkwan knocked in a run, followed by a two-RBI double by Tanner VanDriel to make it 7-0, and later scored on a wild pitch for the 8-0 lead.

Tabor closed out the game in the fifth inning, with Joey Slama scoring on an error on a ball to shortstop by Colin Adams. John Kubal's RBI single to left field scored Beau Rothschadl for the winning run.

"We do a good job of being aggressive up there and when you're playing Legion ball, there's going to be some chances to take advantage of mistakes," Tabor coach Gary Kortan said. "We had a good approach at the plate."

VanDriel and Adams each had two RBis, while Josh Schmidt scored two runs. For Parkston, Alex Scott took the loss, allowing five hits and six earned runs. Rylan Leischner had the only two hits for Parkston.

Parkston (9-4) reached the championship round of the tournament with two wins on Saturday, beating Wagner 13-2 and Platte/Geddes 7-5. Tabor took down Platte/Geddes earlier in the day in the winner's bracket semifinals 2-1.

Spearfish takes down Winner/Colome

For the Royals (11-14), Riley Calhoon had the lone hit and Winner/Colome committed three errors. Carter Brickman took the loss, allowing seven hits in four innings and five earned runs. Jackson Kinzer threw the final three innings and struck out three.
