Amateur baseball roundup: Alexandria edges Parkston
PARKSTON -- The Alexandria Angels edged the Parkston Mudcats 4-3 in their Sunshine League finale on Sunday at The Pond.
Peyton Smith paced the Angels with two hits and two RBIs. Billy Hamilton and Reid Smith each had two hits apiece. Tyson Gau smacked a solo home run in the fourth inning to pad Alexandria’s lead to 4-0.
Dylan Mogck belted a solo home run in the fifth inning for Parkston. Also for Parkston, Brady Nolz had a solo homer. Also for Parkston, Jeff Harris and Dan Bonte each had a hit. Nolz, James Boehmer and Mogck each had two hits. Bonte also drove in a run.
Jordan Gau picked up the win. He struck out six batters, gave up six hits and two earned runs in six innings. Nolz took the loss, giving up 10 hits, four earned runs and fanning 12 batters in the complete-game performance.
Also for Alexandria, Cole Wenande, Jerrod Zens and Armando Rodriguez each had a hit. Alexandria finishes the regular season 15-1 overall and 13-1 in the Sunshine League. Parkston finishes the regular season 10-13-1 overall and 5-10 in Sunshine League action.
Alexandria and Parkston will compete in the District 5B Tournament this week, which is in Platte.Winner/Colome 6, Corsica/Stickney 0
WINNER -- The Winner/Colome Pheasants picked up a Sunshine League amateur baseball victory over the Corsica/Stickney Horned Frogs on Sunday.
For Winner/Colome, Austin Richey had three hits and drove in a run. Derek Graesser and Zach Harter each had two hits. Graesser drove in two runs, while Harter had an RBI. Kelly O’Bryan, Reed Harter, Dillon Lambley, Drew DeMers and Geno Katz each had a hit. Lambley drove in two runs, while Austin Calhoon knocked in a run.
Connor Hopkins earned the win, striking out seven batters, giving up two hits and allowing no runs in 5 2/3 innings.
For Corsica/Stickney, Kris Menning and Jared DeWaard each had a hit. Nathan Blom took the loss. He gave up seven hits and six earned runs in three innings. Winner/Colome finishes the regular season 17-2 overall and 13-2 in the Sunshine League. Corsica/Stickney ends the regular season 8-8 overall and 6-8 in the Sunshine League.
Both teams will play in the District 5B tournament this week in Platte.Dimock/Emery 12, Platte 2
EMERY -- The Dimock/Emery Raptors topped the Platte Killer Tomatoes in Sunshine League amateur baseball action on Sunday.
For the Raptors, Phil Johnson earned the win after pitching six strong innings, giving up three hits, striking out six batters and allowing one earned run.
Offensively, Jared Schmidt had three hits, three RBIs and scored two runs. Jed Schmidt went 3-for-4, while Johnson, Sam Pischke, Steve Ernster, Tucker Kingsbury and Ben Wermers each had a hit. Pischke had two RBIs, while Johnson, Sam Arend, Jason Schmidt and Kingsbury all had an RBI.
For Platte, Hayden Kuiper had two hits. Richard Sternberg, Jon Hoeksema, Payton Foxley, Tait Sibbel and Jarod Severson each had a hit. Michael Buitenbos and Sibbel each drove in a run. Buitenbos took the loss. He gave up six hits, seven earned runs and struck out one batter in five innings.
Dimock/Emery finishes the regular season 13-10 overall and 8-6 in Sunshine League action. Platte closes the regular season 5-10 overall and 5-8 in Sunshine League play.Plankinton 12, Miller 2
MILLER -- The Plankinton Bankers picked up a Pony Hills League amateur baseball win against Miller on Sunday.
Josh Engquist powered Plankinton with a strong eight-inning performance. He struck out 13 batters, gave up five hits and two runs (one earned). He added two hits.
Offensively, Josh Geppert had two hits and four RBIs. Kyle Bruinsma had two hits and knocked in three runs. Chris Hill had two RBIs. Travis Gant and Ryan Urban each had a hit. Tom Harris finished with two hits.
On Thursday, Plankinton defeated Chamberlain 4-0. Chris Hill led Plankinton with three hits and three RBIs. Deion Waddle and Trevor Salmonson each had a hit. Gant picked up the win. He struck out 13 batters, gave up seven hits and no runs in the complete-game performance. For Chamberlain, Mike Schwartz and Remmington Rossow each had two hits.
Plankinton, Chamberlain and Miller will now play in the District 3B tourney, which starts July 21 in Chamberlain.
