LENNOX -- Winner/Colome Post 169 dug itself into a five-run hole. However, sparked by a 10-hit day, Post 169 staved off elimination, scoring seven runs in the final three frames to top Big Stone City Post 229, 7-5, on Sunday at the Class B Legion baseball state tournament.

Trailing 5-3 in the top of the seventh inning, Phillip Jorgensen hit a two-RBI single to tie the game. Post 169 gained its first lead when Jorgensen scored on Oscar Pravecek’s sacrifice fly, then tacked on an insurance run thanks to Carter Brickman singling home Jackson Kinzer.

Pravecek and Jorgensen each had two RBIs, while Kinzer, Brickman and Dalton Baker all finished with a pair of hits.

After Post 229 tagged Jacob Beckers with five runs (two earned) in his 1.2-inning start, Joren Bruun shut it down. He struck out four, tossing 5.1 hitless innings. Bruun did issue six walks, though.

Deaven Boots gave up three runs (two earned) in his six-inning start for Post 229, though Winner/Colome scored four runs (three earned) against Joshua Mueller. Elijah Cloos hit a two-run blast during a four-run first inning, but Big Stone City was held to two hits in the final six frames.

Winner/Colome (15-7) faces Humboldt at 4:30 p.m. today.

Lennox 5, Humboldt 3

LENNOX -- Lennox Post 174 remained undefeated at the Class B Legion baseball state tournament with a win over Humboldt Post 62 on Sunday.

JD Kirchner threw 101 pitches in his five-inning start, allowing three runs (one earned). Mason Miller threw two shutout innings to end the game. At the plate, Camden Wulf finished with two hits as Lennox had five in the win. Holdon Wagner also hit a double.

Post 62 was held to three hits in the loss. Carter Healy struck out two and allowed three earned runs in six innings.

Lennox faces Redfield at 6 p.m. today.

Redfield 4, Beresford 3

LENNOX -- Christian DeYoung singled home Bennet Osborn in the bottom of the sixth inning, which proved to be the winning run to keep Redfield Post 92’s season alive and eliminate Beresford Post 72 from the Class B Legion baseball state tournament on Sunday.

DeYoung finished with two hits as Redfield racked up seven in the win. Barrett Wren drove in two runs, as well. On the mound, Peyton Osborn went the distance, striking out four and giving up three earned runs and eight hits.

Jackson Bickett threw all six innings for Beresford. He allowed four runs (two earned) but also fanned a pair of batters. Jack Bradley Antonson doubled for Beresford, though Conner Thaler had Post 72’s only multi-hit game.

Saturday’s games

Lennox 5, Winner/Colome 1

LENNOX -- Winner/Colome Post 169 couldn’t find an answer for Lennox Post 174’s Camden Wulf on Saturday at the Class B Legion baseball state tournament.

Wulf struck out eight batters, holding Post 169 to one earned run on six hits and four walks in 6.1 innings. Offensively, Lennox scored three runs in the second frame, highlighted by Ray Williams’ two-run double. Williams finished with three hits, including two doubles and three RBIs.

Carter Brickman tossed a complete game for Post 169. He gave up five runs (four earned) and fanned three batters. Oscar Pravecek finished with two hits, while he and Phillip Jorgensen each had a double.

Big Stone City 8, Tabor 7

LENNOX -- Big Stone City Post 229 sent 11 batters to the plate in the sixth inning, turning four hits into six runs to complete a comeback and eliminate Tabor Post 183 from the Class B Legion baseball state tournament on Saturday.

Tabor had previously taken a 6-2 lead in the third inning thanks to Riley Rothschadl’s two-run double and Beau Rothschadl’s two-RBI single sparking a five-run inning. However, it was held to one run in the final four frames.

Tyson Powell lasted 5.1 innings in his start, striking out six and allowing seven runs (five earned). Deaven Boots only issued one walk in the final 1.1 innings for Big Stone City. At the plate, Elijah Cloos went 3-for-3 with two RBIs and Nathan Strong drove in two runs.

John Kubal finished with three hits for Tabor. Mace Merkwan struck out four as he allowed two runs (one earned) in a 3.2-inning start. Zach Cuka and Tanner Van Driel pitched the final 3.1 innings for Tabor.

Tabor finishes the season 15-9.

Beresford 5, Dell Rapids 1

LENNOX -- A three-run fifth inning kept Beresford Post 72’s season alive on Saturday, while eliminating Dell Rapids Post 65 from the Class B Legion baseball state tournament.

Tyler Kropuenske had two of Beresford’s six hits, while Jack Bradley Antonson drove in a trio of runs. Kropuenske also earned the win, throwing a complete game in which he gave up one earned run and fanned five batters.

For Dell Rapids, Jon Wilhelmsen struck out three in his complete-game start. Carter Gullickson went 3-for-4 at the plate, as well.

Humboldt 3, Redfield 2

LENNOX -- Humboldt Post 62 scored three unanswered runs to end the game, topping Redfield Post 92 in the winner’s bracket of the Class B Legion baseball state tournament on Saturday.

Kadyn Nolz had two hits for Humboldt, including a double and triple. Broc Haldeman also doubled and Caden Ideker finished with a pair of hits. Clay Habben picked up the win as he allowed two earned runs and struck out a trio of batters.

Noah Hainy fanned five batters in his 5.1-inning start for Redfield. Humboldt managed to score three runs (one earned) on seven hits and two walks against him. At the plate, Bennet Osborn had two hits in the leadoff spot and Peyton Osborn doubled.
