After a slow start, Mitchell White found its offense in the second game of a teener doubleheader against Yankton on Monday at Drake Field.
Mitchell mustered one hit in a 4-1 Game 1 loss, but rebounded for an 8-7 win against Yankton to earn the split.
Yankton scored in the top of the first and added two more before Mitchell was able to put a run on the board in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Gavin Soukup took the loss on the mound despite allowing one earned run on five hits and two walks in six innings. Karter Sibson had the lone hit for Mitchell.
Yankton once again took an early lead, scoring four runs in the first inning of Game 2 and led 5-1 heading into the third.
Mitchell finally broke through in that frame, though, scoring five runs on six consecutive hits to start. Soukup and P Mandel hit RBI singles, followed by a two-run double by Lincoln Bates.
Yankton tied the game in the fifth and took a one-run lead going into the bottom of the seventh, but Mitchell was able to score two runs on a wild pitch to end the game.
Bates finished 3-for-3 with three RBIs, while Soukup was also 3-for-3 and drove in a run. Sibson went 2-for-4. Tyson Sabers took a no decision after giving up five earned runs on five hits and five walks in 4 1/3 innings. Connor Degen got the win, giving up one run on two hits in 2 2/3 innings of relief.
Mitchell (11-18-1) hosts Huron in a doubleheader at 4 p.m. on Thursday at Drake Field.
