BROOKINGS -- Mitchell Post 18 scored six runs in the first two innings, but it was not enough to beat Renner Post 307 in its opening round matchup of Region 3A Junior Legion tournament on Friday.

After Mitchell took a 6-2 lead after two innings, Renner put up seven runs in the third to earn a 13-7 win. Renner scored its seven runs on four hits and four walks, while scoring six of those runs with two outs.

Mitchell took advantage of a rocky Renner start that saw the Kings three of the first four batters of the game. Post 18 followed it up with five singles that plated five runs in the opening frame. An RBI double by Z Ridl in the second gave Mitchell a commanding lead that would not last.

Carson Fahey went 2-for-4 with an RBI, while Josh Grosdidier, Jake Helleloid, Joe VanOverschelde, Jacob Schumacher and Kade Neugebauer all drove in a run.

Tate DeBoer and Grosdidier combined to allow 11 earned runs on 10 hits and seven walks.

Mitchell (18-17) faces Brookings -- which lost to Watertown, 5-2 -- today in an elimination game in Brookings. The winner faces the winner of the Renner and Watertown game at 6 p.m.
