Avera Sports in Mitchell will host an inaugural coaching clinic for area coaches on May 30 at the DWU/Avera Sports and Wellness Complex.

The event will provide a half-credit of graduate coursework through Dakota Wesleyan University and will take place from 1 p.m. to 8:45 p.m., and costs $50 for the college credit and one meal. The sessions will include coaching philosophies and application of medical and training practices for athletes, along with using emergency action plans and returning to sports after major injuries.

In addition to the coaches clinic, there will be a free session for athletes and parents to attend from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on May 30. The topics will include nutrition, concussion management, strength and conditioning and knee injuries.
