DENVER, Colo. -- A day after opening the NCAA Division II softball championship tournament with a 10-1 win over Valdosta State, Augustana University fell to Biola Friday.

The top-ranked Vikings mustered four hits and were shutout for the second time this season in a 3-0 loss. Augustana (48-7) continues its national championship defense in the double-elimination tournament against West Chester or Grand Valley State at 2:30 p.m. Saturday.

The best chance of the game came in the third inning for the Vikings, when Amanda Dickmeyer and Abbie Lund started the frame with back-to-back hits, only for Biola to record a pair of fielder's choices. Dickmeyer also reached second in the fifth, but was stranded.

Biola started the scoring when Kayla Neff launched a solo home run in the fourth inning and then added two more runs in the top of the seventh inning.
