MOUNT VERNON -- The Howard High School wrestling team picked up three wins at the Mount Vernon/Plankinton/Corsica-Stickney Quad on Tuesday.
The Tigers defeated Mount Vernon/Plankinton/Corsica-Stickney (36-30), Freeman/Marion (66-18) and Sioux Valley (57-12).
In the Howard vs. MVPCS match, Jesse Hastings pinned E.J. Leetch at the 3:13 mark in the 220-pound match. Leetch pinned Clayton Smith in the match against Freeman/Marion.
Howard’s John Callies (138) recorded two pins, while also falling to MVPCS’s Matt Koch by a 5-1 decision. Logan Schlim also won two matches for Howard and was also pinned by Freeman/Marion’s Daniel Cremer.
Howard’s Trevor Petrik (220) won two matches, including a pin over Freeman/Marion’s Connor Koppman. He also picked up a 5-0 decision over Sioux Valley’s RJ Perry.
BHSA claims two wins at Pierce Triangular PIERCE, Neb. -- Bon Homme/Scotland/Avon scored a pair of victories against Nebraska schools at the Pierce (Neb.) triangular on Tuesday, taking down Crofton-Blomfield 72-9 and Pierce, 43-34.
Josh Crownover (195 pounds) scored pins in both of his matches, taking down Calvin Dather in his first match 2:16 and Dylan Kuehler at 1:57 in his second. Jordan Rueb also picked up two wins, but did so at two different weights. In the first match, Reub pinned William Poppe in 59 seconds at 138, while moving down to 132 in the second match and pinning Carter Jensen with six seconds to spare.
MCM cruises by EPJ ELK POINT -- McCook Central/Montrose took down Elk-Point Jefferson 51-18 on Tuesday in the Elk Point-Jefferson Quad. Meanwhile, Andes Central/Dakota Christian fell to EPJ 60-6.
MCM’s Dakota Buck and Carter Randall both won by decision at 106 and 126 pounds, respectively. Jayden Wolf (138) pinned Joseph Weis, while Mason Pulse (145) and Jakobi Krouse (152) won by decision. Tanner Peterson also pinned Matthew Smith in 54 seconds.
