Area volleyball roundup: Wolves nip Hanson in 5 sets

ALEXANDRIA -- Menno outlasted Hanson for a five-set road win on Tuesday. Set scores were 22-25, 25-18, 25-14, 17-25 and 15-10.

Menno (6-9): Jesse Munkvold had a match-high 34 digs and team-high 12 kills. Kylie Harriman added 21 digs and 19 assists. Kaylie Schempp finished with 16 digs. Madelyn Heckenlaible recorded eight kills and four aces, while Bridget Vaith put down eight kills. Paityn Huber added 10 assists and seven digs. The Wolves host Mitchell Christian on Thursday.

Hanson (4-10): Grace Weber stuffed the stat sheet with 17 digs, 12 kills, five aces, two blocks and two assists. Annalyse Weber finished with 16 digs, 15 kills and three aces. Jalyn Kampshoff added 35 assists and 21 digs. Abby Kortan added 10 digs, while Vanessa Doyle chipped in 15 digs. The Beavers travel to Ethan on Thursday.

Gregory 3, Colome 1

GREGORY -- Gregory rattled off three straight set wins for a four-set win over Colome on Tuesday. Set scores were 22-25, 25-15, 25-18 and 25-22.

Gregory (5-11): Kodi Timanus served four aces. Brynn Hylla added 26 assists, 13 digs and three aces and Jessy Jo VanDerWerff served two aces in the win. Brooklyn Kenzy finished with 16 digs. The Gorillas travel to Burke on Thursday.


Colome (9-3 before): Makayla Shippy finished with 21 assists, 11 digs and three aces. Saydee Heath served two aces. Bayline Hoffine added 18 digs and Ashlyn Hoffine chipped 10 digs. Libby Petersek put down 12 kills and Elizabeth Yeaman recorded 10 kills. The Cowboys host White River on Thursday.

Corsica-Stickney 3, Mitchell Christian 0

CORSICA -- Corsica-Stickney cruised to a straight set win over Mitchell Christian on Tuesday. Set scores were 25-18, 25-7 and 25-12.

Corsica-Stickney (13-2): Morgan Clites dished out 27 assists to go with 12 digs. Raven Barsen added nine kills, nine digs and six aces. Avery Broughton finished with nine kills, nine digs and 3.5 blocks, while Morgan DeLange chipped in seven kills and five digs in the win. The Jaguars travel to Winner on Thursday.

Mitchell Christian (2-10): Lindy Hofer finished with a team-high 10 digs. Maggie Reynen added nine digs and Erica Thompson finished with eight digs, five assists and five kills. Whisper Eben chipped in five blocks, three kills and three digs. The Golden Eagles travel to Menno on Thursday.

Burke 3, ACDC 0

BURKE -- Burke notched a sweep over Andes Central/Dakota Christian on Tuesday. Set scores were 25-10, 25-14 and 25-13.

Burke (9-7): Bobbi Jo Wischmann finished with a team-high 24 assists, along with 10 digs and five kills. Adisyn Indahl and Ramee Hanson both put down 10 kills, while Indahl also added 11 digs. Sally Hakin finished with 15 digs and four aces. Hanson also served four aces in the win. The Cougars host Gregory on Thursday.

Andes Central/Dakota Christian (0-8): Allison Muckey dished out four assists. Mackenzie Muckey had 10 digs and four kills, while Claire Johnson finished with 12 digs. Lexie Vanderpol added four kills, three blocks and two aces. The Thunder play Wagner on Thursday in Lake Andes.

Winner 3, Chamberlain 0

CHAMBERLAIN -- Class A No. 5 Winner picked up its 12th win of the season on Tuesday with a sweep of Chamberlain. Set scores were 25-12, 25-13 and 25-11.


Winner (12-3): Ellie Brozik finished with 17 kills and four aces. Kalla Bertram and Shannon Calhoon added nine and six kills, respectively. Maggie LaCompte served three aces and added 14 digs. Mackenzie Levi dished out 32 assists. Bertram recorded a team-high 17 digs. The Warriors host Corsica-Stickney on Thursday.

Chamberlain (1-10): Emma Powers chipped in eight digs and two aces. Kiera Eichstadt dished out 12 assists and Caycee Guinn put down six kills. The Cubs play Platte-Geddes on Thursday in Platte.

Wessington Springs 3, SBA 0

MILLER -- Wessington Springs swept Sunshine Bible Academy in prep volleyball action on Tuesday. Set scores were 25-22, 25-22 and 25-13.

Wessington Springs (5-9): Sarah Poncelow finished with 10 kills and three blocks. Alyssa Grohs added 29 assists and four aces. Trinity Flowers put down eight kills, while Maddie Privett added 22 digs. Kindra Wolter posted 10 digs and Avery Orth recorded five kills. The Spartans play Wolsey-Wessington on Thursday in Wolsey.

Sunshine Bible Academy (4-9): Ruthe Lopez finished with eight kills and three blocks. Abby Haun handed out 12 assists and 14 digs. The Crusaders play James Valley Christian on Thursday in Huron.

Platte-Geddes 3, Miller 2

MILLER -- Platte-Geddes rallied for a five-set marathon match win over Miller on Tuesday. Set scores were 21-25, 18-25, 25-18, 25-21 and 15-12.

Platte-Geddes (12-3): Karly VanDerWerff led the way with 22 kills and two blocks. Cadence Van Zee finished with 11 kills. Avery DeVries dished out 39 assists and 16 digs. Regan Hoffman added 40 digs, while Taryn Starr had four aces. The Black Panthers play Chamberlain on Thursday in Platte.

Miller (3-10): The Rustlers play in the Milbank tournament on Saturday.


Freeman 3, ORR 1

FREEMAN -- Freeman staved off Oldham-Ramona/Rutland’s comeback for a four set win on Tuesday. Set scores were 25-14, 25-14, 22-25 and 25-21.

Freeman (12-6): Rijjy Peterson put down 13 kills to go with 15 digs, two blocks and two aces. Odalite Pankratz chipped in 18 digs, 10 assists, eight kills and four aces. Ava Ammann added 20 assists and 10 digs, while Lily Wipf chipped in nine digs and five aces. The Flyers play Viborg-Hurley on Monday in Hurley.

Oldham-Ramona/Rutland (5-11): Julia Trygstad finished with 12 digs, nine kills and five aces. Alivia Bickett added 19 digs and Alivia Spilde put down eight kills. Paige Hanson dished out 17 assists in the loss. The Raiders play in the De Smet tournament on Saturday.

SCW 3, JVC 0

FORESTBURG -- Sanborn Central/Woonsocket earned a close three-set sweep over James Valley Christian on Tuesday. Set scores were 25-21, 25-21 and 25-22.

Sanborn Central/Woonsocket (6-9): Teya Moody finished with a team-high 20 digs, while Trista White added 16 kills and 15 digs. Brooke Doering finished with 16 digs, 10 kills and two blocks, while Cassidy Slykhuis added three blocks. Morgan Schmiedt recorded 27 assists and 14 digs in the win. The Blackhawks play Kimball/White Lake on Thursday in White Lake.

James Valley Christian (5-8): Brenna Held put down a team-best nine kills and 14 blocks, while Karilyn Wieting dished out 19 assists. The Vikings play Sunshine Bible Academy on Thursday in Huron.

Garretson 3, MCM 0

SALEM -- Garretson notched a three-set win over McCook Central/Montrose on Tuesday. Set scores were 25-12, 25-20 and 25-19.

Garretson (14-3): Lily Ranschau recorded 11 kills, nine digs, three blocks and three aces. Kennedy Buckneberg added 18 digs and seven kills. Peyton Hove dished out a team-high 13 assists and Lexi Gawarecki added 10 digs. The Blue Dragons host Tea Area on Thursday.


McCook Central/Montrose (10-9): Riley Morrison finished with 28 digs. Brianna Even added 11 assists and Tayah Mcgregor chipped in five kills and three blocks. Michaela McCormick put down six kills. The Fighting Cougars play Tea Area on Oct. 20 in Montrose.
