Area volleyball roundup: WiLdKats erase 0-2 deficit to beat Cubs

KIMBALL -- Kimball/White Lake rebounded after dropping the first two sets to Chamberlain, as the WiLdKats came all the way back to win in five. Set scores were 16-25, 21-25, 25-11, 25-18 and 15-12.

Kimball/White Lake (7-11): Grace Konechne recorded 24 digs, 23 kills and three aces. Kennedy Leiferman stuffed the stat sheet with 19 digs, 14 kills, five aces and two blocks. Dani Deffenbaugh recorded 16 digs, 10 kills and four aces, while Ryann Nielsen dished out 47 assists. Madison Heath added 25 digs in the win. The WiLdKats travel to Parkston on Thursday.

Chamberlain (11-10): Hannah Anderson had 10 kills, 13 digs and three blocks, while McKenzie Mutzinger had 17 assists and 16 digs. Emma Powers had 19 digs and Caree Guinn added nine kills and six digs. The Cubs host Mount Vernon/Plankinton on Thursday.

Parkston 3, Platte-Geddes 1

PARKSTON -- Parkston bounced back after dropping the second set to take down Platte-Geddes in four on Tuesday. Set scores were 26-24, 16-25, 25-19 and 25-16.

Parkston (13-11): Izzy Hohn had 23 assists and 22 digs for the Trojans. Amber Albrecht added 10 kills and Maggie Baumgart finished with 11 kills. Allison Ziebart recorded 19 digs in the win. The Trojans host Kimball/White Lake on Thursday.


Platte-Geddes (7-8): Avery DeVries served three aces to go with 25 assists and four kills. Karly Vanderwerff added 14 kills and Regan Hoffman finished with 12. The Black Panthers travel to Gregory on Thursday.

Burke 3, Avon 1

BONESTEEL -- Burke only dropped one set on Tuesday as it took down Avon. Set scores were 20-25, 25-16, 27-25 and 25-16.

Burke (19-4): Adisyn Indahl and Lainee Schonebaum served four and three aces, respectively. Schonebaum added 17 kills and 16 digs. Taylee Indahl put down 20 kills to go with 21 digs and two blocks. Bobbi Jo Wischmann dished out 10 assists, while Adisyn Indahl recorded eight. Sally Hakin added five kills and two blocks. The Cougars play Corsica-Stickney on Thursday in Corsica.

Avon (12-7): Maddie Kocmich recorded three aces for the Pirates. Shalayne Nagel put down 10 kills, while Madisyn Cameron added 20 assists, 13 digs, three aces and two blocks. Tiffany Pelton recorded nine kills. The Pirates play Bridgewater-Emery on Thursday in Emery.

MCM 3, Howard 0

HOWARD -- Class A No. 4 McCook Central/Montrose knocked off Howard on Tuesday to earn a prep volleyball win. Set scores were 25-19, 25-15 and 25-14.

McCook Central/Montrose (17-3): Aleah Ries served three aces for the Fighting Cougars. Abigail Van Ruler put down 15 kills and added three blocks, while Jacy Pulse recorded 12 kills and 15 digs. Emily Bies dished out 38 assists in the win. The Fighting Cougars play West Central on Thursday in Hartford.

Howard (5-8): Madison Kizer recorded a team-high four kills. Emma Rudebusch dished out six assists for the Tigers. Kate Connor and Kizer both had four blocks and Kyra Shumaker added 14 digs. The Tigers host Canistota on Thursday.

Ethan 3, Wessington Springs 0

ETHAN -- Class B No. 5 Ethan took down Wessington Springs in straight sets on Tuesday in prep volleyball action. Set scores were 25-17, 25-12 and 25-15.


Ethan (17-3): Jada Plastow recorded 17 digs and 11 kills for the Rustlers. Cameryn Logan added 14 kills, 11 digs and five aces, while Hannah Bartscher recorded 12 digs and three aces. Jessica Bartscher dished out 28 assists to go with five kills. The Rustlers travel to Howard on Thursday.

Wessington Springs (5-11): Trinity Flowers recorded eight kills and two assists. Piper Jones blocked a pair of kill attempts. Alyssa Grohs and Cheyenne Burg each dished out nine assists.

The Spartans play Highmore-Harrold on Thursday in Highmore.

Freeman 3, Bon Homme 0

TYNDALL -- Freeman knocked off Bon Homme in straight sets on Tuesday to pick up a prep volleyball win. Set scores were 25-15, 25-16 and 25-16.

Freeman (14-5): Emily Miller recorded a team-best 15 kills, along with four digs and two blocks. Rijjy Peterson added five blocks and 11 kills, while Odalite Pankratz recorded nine kills in the win. Cara Maske dished out 32 assists. The Flyers play Oldham-Ramona/Rutland on Oct. 15 in Ramona.

Bon Homme (3-18): McKenzie Carson put down five kills for the Cavaliers. Ciera Himes and Jenae Alberts each had four kills, with Alberts adding six digs. Abby Criets recorded 10 digs. The Cavaliers travel to Scotland on Oct. 15.

Canistota 3, Menno 0

CANISTOTA -- Canistota didn’t drop a set on Tuesday as it cruised to a straight set win over Menno. Set scores were 25-15, 25-18 and 25-14.

Canistota (9-11): Desiree Pierce finished with 13 digs and two aces. Hannah Parry recorded 22 assists, 14 digs and two aces for the Hawks, while Skylar Bultje added 13 kills and six digs. Harley Corman recorded nine digs and five kills. Sydnee Engbrecht recorded seven kills. The Hawks travel to Howard on Thursday.


Menno (3-9): Jesse Munkvold recorded 10 digs and two blocks for the Wolves. Kylie Harriman finished with seven digs and two aces, while Trinity Kocourek had a team-high eight digs. The Wolves host Gayville-Volin on Thursday.

Wagner 3, Scotland 0

WAGNER --Wagner notched a straight set win over Scotland on Tuesday. Set scores were 25-7, 25-8 and 25-15.

Wagner (14-4): Kayli Kocer added 10 aces in the win. Abby Brunsing finished with 12 kills, while Emilea Cimpl added 28 assists and 15 digs. Lizzie Tyler recorded 17 digs, while she and Maesa Dvorak each added seven kills. The Red Raiders play in the Chester Area tournament on Saturday.

Scotland (7-8): Bella Vitek and Delanie VanDriel each had three kills. Rylee Conrad added 10 assists, while Audrey Sayler and Kennedy Bietz both had 11 digs. The Highlanders host Centerville on Thursday.

Winner 3, Gregory 0

WINNER -- Winner didn’t allow more than 11 points in a set as it took down Gregory on Tuesday. Set scores were 25-6, 25-11 and 25-8.

Winner (14-4): Ellie Brozik added three aces to go with 11 kills and a block. Morgan Hammerbeck put down a team-best 11 kills. Mackenzie Levi dished out 15 assists and recorded nine digs, while Addy Root added eight assists. Maggie LaCompte finished with a team-best nine digs. The Warriors host White River on Thursday.

Gregory (12-9): No statistics were reported for Gregory. The Gorillas host Platte-Geddes on Thursday.

Hanson 3, Centerville 0

ALEXANDRIA -- Hanson didn’t drop a set on Tuesday as it cruised past Centerville. Set scores were 25-12, 25-13 and 25-18.

Hanson (7-14): Elizabeth Arend led the Beavers with seven kills, while Hanna Robinson added 12 digs in the win. Abby Kortan dished out 18 assists to go with five digs, while Grace Wever and Robinson both served a pair of aces. The Beavers travel to Mitchell Christian on Thursday.

Centerville (2-14): Sophie Eide finished with eight digs and five aces for the Tornadoes. Ellie Hunter added 14 digs, five kills and two aces. Mackenzie Meyer added 10 digs. The Tornadoes travel to Scotland on Thursday.

MILLER -- Sanborn Central/Woonsocket took down Sunshine Bible Academy in straight sets on Tuesday. Set scores were 25-19, 25-17 and 25-8.

Sanborn Central/Woonsocket (9-7): Kaylee White and Brooke Doering each served three aces for the Blackhawks, with White also adding 13 digs. Morgan Schmiedt recorded 12 digs and six aces, while Cassidy Slykhuis finished with eight kills. Ellie Voneye dished out 11 assists in the win. The Blackhawks play Tripp-Delmont/Armour on Thursday in Woonsocket.

Sunshine Bible Academy (1-14): Beth Konechne put down a team-high four kills to go with 10 digs. Dori Brockel added six aces for the Crusaders and a team-high 19 digs. Liza Knoechne dished out seven assists and served a trio of aces. The Crusaders play Iroquois/Doland on Thursday in Iroquois.

Miller 3, MVP 0

MILLER -- Class A No. 2 Miller scored tight wins in two out of the three sets to come away with a sweep of Mount Vernon/Plankinton, 25-21, 25-12 and 27-25.

Miller (16-1): Kadye Fernholz had 18 kills and 13 digs, while Rachel Olligmueller had 40 assists and VonnaGail Schlechter had 10 kills and 17 digs. The Rustlers play in a tournament on Saturday in St. Michael, Minnesota.

Mount Vernon/Plankinton (10-6): Katlyn Briggs had 14 kills and seven blocks, while Reagan Klooz had 17 assists and 20 digs. Shyla Tobin and Rebecca Gerlach added 17 digs apiece. The Titans travel to Chamberlain on Thursday.
