Area volleyball roundup: Titans sweep Parkston

PARKSTON - No. 5-ranked Mount Vernon/Plankinton grabbed a road win over a Region 5A rival Monday at Parkston, winning in three sets.

Set scores were 25-15, 25-18 and 26-24.

MVP picked up 14 kills from Destiney Haak and 12 kills from Hannah Clark. Erin Denning had 27 assists and Kaleigh Erdahl had 13 digs for the Titans.

For the Trojans, Paige Semmler had 15 kills and two blocks. Nicky Weber had 15 digs and Mariah Weber had 16 digs. Sammi Murtha had a double-double with 23 assists and 12 digs.

The Titans (10-6) will host Platte-Geddes today, while Parkston (8-8) travels today to Tripp to take on Tripp-Delmont/Armour.

Howard 3

Bridgewater-Emery 0

BRIDGEWATER - Howard swept Bridgewater-Emery in straight sets in a prep volleyball match on Monday in Bridgewater.

Set scores were 25-16, 25-21 and 25-23.

Katelyn Kampshoff led the Tigers with 10 assists, 10 digs and two aces. Hilary Albrecht and Sarah Borger pounded out 11 and nine kills, respectively. Albrecht added seven digs. Bailey Rudebusch and Cailey Hinker added 13 and 12 digs, respectively. Citori Bentz added 15 assists and six digs for Howard, while Marina Albrecht finished with four blocks.

Hannah Harberts dished out 26 assists for Bridgewater-Emery. Autumn Hilton and Kadra Kayser put down 11 and 10 kills, respectively. Hilton added four blocks and Kayser had eight digs.

Libby Bailey and Katelyn Kotas had 13 and 11 digs, respectively. Sydney Hoffman added five kills and one block for Bridgewater-Emery.

Howard (7-8) will host Mitchell Christian tonight in Howard. Bridgewater-Emery (8-9) will play Ethan tonight in Emery.

Wagner 3

Vermillion 1

WAGNER - Wagner downed Vermillion 3-1 in a high school volleyball match on Monday in Wagner.

Set scores were 25-23, 25-19, 24-26 and 25-22.

Jensen Holzbauer powered Wagner with 20 kills and 24 digs. Carolyn Blaha added 13 kills for the Red Raiders. Sierra Juffer registered a double-double with 36 assists and 24 digs, while Kristan Soukup notched 23 digs for Wagner.

Kaci Madsen and Amanda Finnegan both put down 11 kills for Vermillion. Finnegan added five blocks. Emily Bye led Vermillion with 27 digs and Kyleigh Moran dished out 35 assists.

Wagner (6-8) will host Tri-Valley on Saturday.

Corsica-Stickney 3

Wessington Springs 2

WESSINGTON SPRINGS - Corsica-Stickney rallied from two sets down Monday for a prep volleyball victory at Wessington Springs in five sets.

Set scores were 12-25, 17-25, 25-16, 25-22 and 15-10.

For the Jaguars, Bridget Burke had eight kills and Courtney Menning had seven kills and 13 digs. Kassidy Clark added 16 assists, nine digs and two aces.

Wessington Springs was led by seven kills and 19 digs from Jaycee Hohn, while Whitney Reider added 22 assists. Shannon Linn had eight blocks and Piper Jones had three aces in the loss.

The Spartans won the JV match 26-24 and 25-13.

Corsica-Stickney (2-9) will host Tripp-Delmont/Armour in Corsica on Thursday. The Spartans (2-7) are in the 281 Conference tournament on Thursday at Forestburg.

281 Conference Tournament pairings announced

The pairings for the 281 Conference Tournament have been released.

Sanborn Central/Woonsocket will play Sunshine Bible Academy at 6 p.m. on Thursday in Forestburg. Highmore-Harrold will play Wessington Springs at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday in Forestburg. Hitchcock-Tulare will play Iroquois at 6 p.m. on Thursday in Tulare. Wolsey-Wessington will play James Valley Christian at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday in Tulare.

Saturday's locations will be the top-seeded winner and top-seeded loser from Thursday night's matches.
