Area volleyball roundup: Titans edge Bon Homme in 5 sets

MOUNT VERNON -- Mount Vernon/Plankinton outlasted Bon Homme in a five-set match on Thursday for the Titans’ first win of the year. Set scores were 23-25, 25-15, 25-16, 19-25 and 15-11.

Mount Vernon/Plankinton (1-2): Maria Baker put down a team-high 14 kills, while Haley Pickart added 10 kills. Shyla Tobin dished out 26 assists to go with 16 digs. The Titans play Ethan on Tuesday in Plankinton.

Bon Homme (2-2): Jenae Alberts recorded 22 digs, 12 kills and three aces. Olivia Bures finished with 15 digs and seven kills. The Cavaliers play Vermillion on Tuesday in Tyndall.

Ethan 3, SCW 1

FORESTBURG -- After dropping the first set, Ethan took the next three sets in a win over Sanborn Central/Woonsocket on Thursday. Set scores were 25-27, 25-17, 25-22 and 25-22.

Ethan (2-1): Bella Nesheim led the way with 11 kills and three aces. Ava Lingemann added eight kills and 38 digs. Payton Riggs and Maddy Bartscher finished with 15 and 12 assists, respectively. Bartscher added six total blocks. Hannah Bartscher recorded 42 digs, while Lexi Lingemann had seven total blocks. The Rustlers play Mount Vernon/Plankinton on Tuesday in Plankinton.

Sanborn Central/Woonsocket (1-2): Brooke Doering finished with 14 digs, while Trista White added nine kills. Cassidy Slykhuis put down eight kills and had three blocks. Morgan Schmiedt dished out 22 assists and Ellie Voneye had eight assists. Voneye also had 18 digs. Trista White logged 17 digs and nine kills, while Kaitlin Brueske finished with two aces. The Blackhawks play Corsica-Stickney on Tuesday in Corsica.

Wagner 3, Chamberlain 1

WAGNER -- Wagner dropped the third set on Thursday, but bounced back for a four-set win over Chamberlain. Set scores were 25-20, 25-16, 23-25 and 25-23.

Wagner (2-1): Abby Brunsing finished with team highs of 21 kills and five aces. Olivia Breen added 12 digs, while Paige Petry recorded 21 assists and 10 digs. Macy Koupal added 17 assists and Shona Kocer put down nine kills. The Red Raiders host Platte-Geddes on Tuesday.

Chamberlain (1-2): Caycee Guinn served six aces and had two blocks. Mya Knippling finished with 12 kills and three blocks. Emma Powers dished out a team-high 12 assists and Kiera Eichstadt added 13 digs. Jayslee Petersen recorded 12 digs. The Cubs travel to Burke on Tuesday.

KWL 3, Burke 1

KIMBALL -- Kimball/White Lake took down Burke in four sets on Thursday. Set scores were 25-16, 20-25, 25-16 and 25-7.

Kimball/White Lake (2-1): Kennedy Leiferman stuffed the stat sheet with 23 kills, 10 digs, three aces and two blocks. Dani Deffenbaugh chipped in 18 kills, 18 digs and three aces. Ryann Nielsen dished out 38 assists. Alison Sinclair chipped in nine kills and seven digs, while Madison Heath chipped in 21 digs. Sinclair and Heath both served three aces. The WiLdKats play Tripp-Delmont/Armour on Sept. 10 in White Lake.

Burke (0-3): Bobbi Jo Wischmann finished with 11 assists, three kills and three aces. Adisyn Indahl added 13 digs and seven kills. Ramee Hanson finished with 11 digs. The Cougars host Chamberlain on Tuesday.

Avon 3, ACDC 0

LAKE ANDES -- Avon earned its second win of the season on Thursday, as the Pirates took down Andes Central/Dakota Christian in straight sets. Set scores were 25-12, 25-8 and 25-17.

Avon (2-2): Tiffany Pelton put down a team-best eight kills, while Reese Powers dished out 12 assists to go with three aces. Maddie Kocmich served four aces. Katie Gretschmann added a team-high seven digs. The Pirates host Tripp-Delmont/Armour on Tuesday.

Andes Central/Dakota Christian (0-2): Lexie Vanderpol finished with seven kills and three blocks. Keeva Weddell and Allison Muckey both dished out six assists. Mackenzie Muckey recorded five digs. The Thunder travel to Parkston on Tuesday.

Platte-Geddes 3, Colome 0

PLATTE -- Platte-Geddes picked up a three-set sweep against Colome in prep volleyball action on Thursday.

Platte-Geddes (2-0): Cadence VanZee led the way with 10 kills and 14 digs. Karly VanDerWerff added nine kills and seven digs. Addy Boltjes put down six kills. Regan Hoffman recorded 19 digs and seven aces. Avery DeVries dished out 28 assists. The Black Panthers travel to Wagner on Tuesday.

Colome (2-1): Libby Petersek finished with 15 digs and five kills. Elizabeth Yeaman and Katie Welker each had four kills. Yeaman added three blocks. Saydee Heath finished with two aces and two blocks. Makayla Shippy finished with 15 digs and 13 assists. Ashlyn Hoffine recorded 10 digs. The Cowgirls play in the Gregory Invitational on Saturday.

Bridgewater-Emery 3, Wessington Springs 0

EMERY -- Led by Julia Weber’s 19 kills and 10 digs, Bridgewater-Emery took down Wessington Springs in straight sets on Thursday. Set scores were 25-12, 25-10 and 25-12.

Bridgewater-Emery (4-0): Kerrigan Schultz chipped in 20 assists, eight digs and four kills. Taylor Schallenkamp added nine kills and three blocks, while Kaitlyn Roskens finished with 10 assists. Cara Meyer recorded 10 digs and Chloe Schmitt finished with two blocks. The Huskies play Irene-Wakonda on Sept. 10 in Emery.

Wessington Springs (1-2): Alyssa Grohs recorded 13 digs and 10 assists in the loss. Grace Gran added 10 digs and six kills, while Sarah Poncelow finished with six digs, three blocks and four kills. The Spartans travel to Mitchell Christian on Tuesday.

Parkston 3, Hanson 0

ALEXANDRIA -- Parkston earned a straight set win over Hanson on Thursday. Set scores were 25-12, 25-18 and 25-23.

Parkston (4-1): Emma Yost stuffed the stat sheet with 19 digs, six kills and five aces. Baylee Schoenfelder added 19 digs and four aces, while Brielle Bruening chipped in five kills, four blocks and three aces. Faith Oakley dished out 10 assists and C.C. Neugebauer finished with 11 assists and 10 digs. The Trojans host Andes Central/Dakota Christian on Tuesday.

Hanson (1-2): Grace Weber put down a team-high five kills. Jalyn Kampshoff added 14 assists and eight digs. Skylar Holm and Kate Haiar both added 12 digs, while Abby Kortan served three aces in the loss. The Beavers travel to Howard on Tuesday.

Parker 3, MCM 1

MONTROSE -- Parker rattled off three straight set wins on Thursday to take down McCook Central/Montrose. Set scores were 20-25, 25-17, 25-18 and 25-20.

Parker (4-0): Breana Jensen finished with 27 digs and three aces. Ryleigh Andersen chipped in 11 digs and three aces. Brooke Berens added 10 kills and three aces, while Cierra Mohr finished with 27 assists and seven digs. Mohr and Berens both had three blocks. The Pheasants host a tournament on Sept. 10.

McCook Central/Montrose (1-3): Riley Morrison had 19 digs. Ashtyn Wobig finished with 15 digs and five kills. Maggie Miles recorded 22 assists and Madisen Koepsell recorded seven kills and five blocks. The Fighting Cougars play Sioux Valley on Tuesday in Volga.

Scotland 3, Viborg-Hurley 0

SCOTLAND -- After a contested first set, Scotland cruised to a straight set win over Viborg-Hurley on Thursday. Set scores were 27-25, 25-13 and 25-14.

Scotland (2-1): Grace Fryda finished with 15 digs and 11 kills. Rylee Conrad dished out 29 assists, while Kennedy Bietz added 21 digs and seven kills. Delanie Vandriel also put down seven kills and Makayla Friederich added 11 digs and six kills. The Highlanders play Gayville-Volin on Tuesday in Gayville.

Viborg-Hurley (0-3): Coral Mason finished with six kills, six digs and four blocks. Denae Mach recorded 10 assists. Delana Mach chipped in five kills, five blocks, three aces and two digs. Rachel Christensen added 13 digs. The Cougars travel to Canistota on Tuesday.

RUTLAND -- Oldham-Ramona/Rutland edged Canistota in prep volleyball action on Thursday. Set scores were 27-25, 16-25, 25-22, 19-25 and 15-5.

Oldham-Ramona/Rutland (1-2): Julia Trygstad finished with nine kills, 19 digs and three blocks. Alivia Spilde finished with five kills and eight digs. Alivia Bickett added 24 digs, eight aces, four kills and two blocks. Paige Hanson recorded 17 assists and 12 digs. Sine Matson added 31 digs and Breckyn Hanson posted 17 digs. The Raiders play Elkton-Lake Benton on Tuesday in Rutland.

Canistota (1-2): Kenzy Krinke finished with 17 digs, 12 kills and four aces. Mykkah Krinke added 29 assists and four aces. Kayla Papendick posted 25 digs and six kills. Taylor McGregor and Sydnee Engbrecht finished with seven kills and six kills. Lexi Tieszen added 39 digs and and Desiree Pierce recorded 16 digs. The Hawks host Viborg-Hurley on Tuesday.

Howard 3, Freeman 1

HOWARD -- Howard won a high-scoring second set en route to a four-set win over Freeman on Thursday. Set scores were 25-14, 30-28, 19-25 and 25-19.

Howard (3-1): Katlin Schlim served five aces to go with 24 digs. Piper Thompson added 18 digs, while Kate Connor recorded 12 blocks and 11 kills. Emma Rudebusch finished with 18 assists. The Tigers host Hanson on Tuesday.

Freeman (2-1): Rijjy Peterson finished with 17 kills and six digs. Odalite Pankratz chipped in 12 digs, 10 assists and seven kills. Cara Maske recorded 15 assists and 10 digs, while Lily Wipf added nine digs. Kate Miller had six digs and three blocks. The Flyers travel to Centerville on Tuesday.

Gregory 3, Lyman 1

PRESHO -- Gregory swept Lyman on Thursday for its first win of thes eason. Set scores were 25-19, 27-25 and 27-25.

Gregory (1-1): Dakota Timanus put down a team-best seven kills. Mya Determan added seven kills, and eight digs. Jessy Jo VanDerWerff chipped in nine digs and three aces. Gracie Kenzy added 11 assists in the win. The Gorillas play in the Gregory Invitational on Saturday.

Lyman (0-2): Haleigh Elwood served three aces. Tanna Wells added five blocks and two kills. Drew Lulf dished out seven assists and Allison McManus finished with nine digs. The Raiders travel to Colome on Tuesday.
