Area volleyball roundup: Scotland clips Cavaliers in five sets

TYNDALL -- Scotland held off Bon Homme’s rally for a five-set win on Monday. Set scores were 25-16, 25-11, 16-25, 17-25 and 15-13.

Scotland (7-6): Delanie Vandriel finished with eight kills, seven digs and seven assists. Kennedy Bietz recorded 16 digs and five kills. Rylee Conrad chipped in 31 assists and 11 digs, while Makayla Friederich put down six kills. The Highlanders travel to Menno today.

Bon Homme (9-13): Jenna Duffek dished out 24 assists and 10 digs. Olivia Bures added 12 kills, 11 digs and four aces. Mckenzie Carson put down 10 kills to go with 13 digs. Jenae Alberts chipped in 24 digs, five kills and five aces. The Cavaliers travel to Avon today.

SCW 3, Howard 1

HOWARD -- After dropping a marathon first set, Sanborn Central/Woonsocket notched a four-set win over Howard on Monday. Set scores were 31-33, 25-19, 25-23 and 25-15.

Sanborn Central/Woonsocket (8-11): Trista White recorded 26 digs and 17 kills for the Blackhawks. Morgan Schmiedt dished out 26 assists, while Brooke Doering chipped in 20 digs, 13 kills, four aces and two blocks. Cassidy Slykhuis added seven kills and two blocks. Ellie Voneye blocked four aces. The Blackhawks play Mount Vernon/Plankinton today in Plankinton.

Howard (7-12): Emma Rudebusch dished out 15 assists and served four aces. Katlin Schlim recorded 30 digs and Mia Glanzer finished with 24 digs and 12 assists. Aleya Kizer had a team-high 10 kills. The Tigers host Irene-Wakonda today.

KWL 3, Colome 1

WHITE LAKE -- Kennedy Leiferman recorded her 1,000th career dig in Kimball/White Lake’s four-set win over Colome on Monday. Set scores were 23-25, 25-17, 25-12 and 25-11.

Kimball/White Lake (14-4): Leiferman recorded 14 kills, 10 digs, five aces and four blocks in the win. Dani Deffenbaugh chipped in 11 aces, 10 digs, eight kills and three blocks. Allison Sinclair put down nine kills, while Ryann Nielsen dished out 27 assists. Madison Heath added 13 digs. The WiLdKats play Parkston today in White Lake.

Colome (12-5): Libbie Petersek finished with eight digs and seven kills. Makayla Shippy recorded 16 assists, 15 digs and two aces. Elizabeth Yeaman added seven digs and four kills. Bailey Hoffine added nine digs and five kills. The Cowgirls play Corsica-Stickney today in Corsica.

Wagner 3, Burke 1

WAGNER -- After dropping the first set, Wagner won three straight sets to top Burke on Monday. Set scores were 17-25, 25-21, 25-22 and 25-12.

Wagner (8-5): Abby Brunsing recorded 21 digs and 20 kills, while Avari Bruguier added 24 digs and 11 kills. Madi Knebel recorded 23 digs. Alcista Dion finished with 19 digs and eight assists. Shona Kocer added six digs. The Red Raiders host Tripp-Delmont/Armour today.

Burke (13-10): Adisyn Indahl put down 14 kills to go with 19 digs. Bobbi Jo Wischmann added 24 assists, 23 digs and six kills. Sally Hakin recorded three blocks and Ramee Hanson chipped in 14 digs and six kills. The Cougars host Lyman today.

Winner 3, Platte-Geddes 1

WINNER -- Class A No. 5 Winner picked up its 20th win of the year with a four-set win over Platte-Geddes. Set scores were 21-25, 25-17, 25-12 and 25-16.

Winner (20-4): Ellie Brozik had 21 kills and four aces, while Kalla Bertram chipped in 14 kills and four blocks. Mackenzie Levi dished out 36 assists and 17 digs. Maggie LaCompte recorded 20 digs. The Warriors next play in the Region 7A/8A tournament.

Platte-Geddes (16-6): Karly Vanderwerff finished with nine kills, three blocks and three aces. Avery Devries added 21 assists and three aces. Cadence Van Zee put down a team-high 11 kills to go with 11 digs and Regan Hoffman added 24 digs. The Black Panthers play Ethan today in Platte.

MCM 3, Hanson 1

SALEM -- McCook Central/Montrose topped Hanson in a prep volleyball action. Set scores were 25-16, 27-25, 20-25 and 25-16.

McCook Central/Montrose (12-10): Brandy Pulse finished with 15 kills and Michaela McCormick posted nine kills. Ashtyn Wobig added eight kills, three blocks and two aces. Maggie Miles posted 27 assists and two aces. Riley Morrison recorded 25 digs, while Mesa Bartmann had 13 digs and three aces. Brianna Even handed out 19 assists. The Fighting Cougars next play in the Region 5A tournament.

Hanson (5-14): Andrea Thelen and Shelby Hernandez posted seven kills. Annalyse Weber finished with six kills, 11 digs and two aces. Jalyn Kampshoff posted 23 assists and 18 kills. Abby Kortan added 20 digs and Skylar Holm posted 12 digs. Taylor Schroeder had nine digs. The Beavers travel to Canistota on Friday.

Freeman 3, Canistota 0

FREEMAN -- Freeman swept Canistota in straight sets in high school volleyball action on Monday. Set scores were 25-20, 25-18 and 25-18.

Freeman (14-6): Rijjy Peterson finished with 10 kills, 11 digs, four blocks and two aces. Odalite Pankratz posted eight kills, seven digs and two aces. Cara Maske added 23 assists and 12 digs. The Flyers play Alcester-Hudson today in Alcester.

Canistota (3-12): Taylor McGregor logged seven kills, while Kenzy Krinke and Kayla Papendick both had five kills. Krinke added 13 digs and Desiree Pierce registered 12 digs. Lexi Tieszen finished with nine assists and 11 digs. Sydnee Engbrecht finished with 11 digs and four kills. The Hawks travel to Dell Rapids St. Mary today.

TRIPP -- Ethan cruised past Tripp-Delmont/Armour for a sweep on Monday for its 10th win of the season. Set scores were 25-15, 25-17 and 25-17.

Ethan (10-10): Lexi Lingemann finished with 51 digs and 13 digs, while Bella Nesheim put down 13 kills to go with 15 digs. Hannah Bartscher added 17 digs, five kills and three blocks. Ava Lingemann dished out 29 assists. The Rustlers play Platte-Geddes today in Platte.

Tripp-Delmont/Armour (8-10): Hannah Stremick paced the Nighthawks with 13 assists, eight kills and eight digs. Gracey Schatz finished with eight kills and two aces. Bailey Spaans dished out eight assists and four digs. Emma Fink recorded 10 digs. The Nighthawks travel to Wagner today.

LAKE ANDES -- Gregory swept Andes Central/Dakota Christian in straight sets on Monday. Set scores 25-20, 25-9 and 25-21.

Gregory (6-15): Brooklyn Kenzy posted 11 kills and eight digs. Jessy Jo VanDerWerff added nine kills and nine digs. Brynn Hylla added 13 assists and 10 digs. Kodi Timans had three aces, while Gracie Kenzy finished with two aces. The Gorillas play next play in the Region 6B tournament.

Andes Central/Dakota Christian (1-12): Mackenzie Muckey logged five kills, 10 digs, four blocks, four assists and three aces. Claire Johnson added 13 digs and Kea’ona Doren posted 10 digs. Keeva Waddell and Lexie VanderPol both had five kills. Allison Muckey had eight assists. The Thunder travel to Menno on Thursday.

Parkston 3, Menno 0

PARKSTON -- Parkston notched a straight set win over Menno on Monday. Set scores were 25-14, 25-12 and 25-19.

Parkston (15-6): C.C. Neugebauer finished with 23 assists and 13 digs. Maggie Baumgart added 13 kills and four blocks, while Emma Yost chipped in seven kills and three aces. The Trojans play Kimball/White Lake today in White Lake.
