Area volleyball roundup: Mitchell Christian bumps off ACDC in 4 sets

Mitchell Christian held off Andes Central/Dakota Christian’s comeback in a four-set home win on Friday. Set scores were 25-23, 25-15, 20-25 and 25-18.

Mitchell Christian (4-11): Maggie Reynen finished with 23 digs, 12 aces and nine kills for the Golden Eagles. Kaitlyn Tegethoff chipped in 10 digs, seven kills and three blocks. Erica Thompson had 20 digs, 15 assists and six aces in the win. Whisper Eben and Keely O’Neill had 17 and 14 digs, respectively. The Golden Eagles host James Valley Christian and Freeman Academy/Marion on Tuesday.

Andes Central/Dakota Christian (0-11): Mackenzie Muckey recorded 25 digs, nine assists, nine kills and two blocks in the loss. Allison Muckey chipped in 13 digs, 11 kills and nine assists. Claire Johnson added 16 digs and Lexie VanderPol put down 12 kills to go with six digs in the loss. Keeva Weddell served five aces. The Thunder play Gregory on Monday in Lake Andes.

MCM 3, Canistota 0

MONTROSE -- McCook Central/Montrose cruised past Canistota for a straight set win on Friday. Set scores were 25-16, 25-14 and 25-16.

McCook Central/Montrose (11-10): Riley Morrison finished with 25 digs. Ashtyn Wobig chipped in 11 digs, five kills and two blocks, while Brandy Pulse put down eight kills. Tayah McGregor added seven kills and three blocks. Maggie Miles dished out a team-high 17 assists. The Fighting Cougars play Hanson on Monday in Salem.

Canistota (2-11): Sydnee Engbrecht recorded 14 digs and four kills. Desiree Pierce chipped in 15 digs and five assists, while Kayla Papendick had a team-high 19 digs. Kenzy Krinke had 16 digs and seven kills. Lexi Tieszen added 17 digs and seven assists in the win. The Hawks host Viborg-Hurley today.

Corsica-Stickney 3, Scotland 0

SCOTLAND -- Corsica-Stickney notched a sweep over Scotland on Friday for its 15th win of the season. Set scores were 25-18, 25-18 and 25-16.

Corsica-Stickney (15-3): Sutten Eide dished out 26 assists to go with nine digs. Rachel Gerlach added 12 digs, while Morgan DeLange recorded 10 kills and seven digs. Avery Broughton chipped in eight digs, seven kills and three blocks. Raven Barse finished with 13 digs and 10 kills. The Jaguars play Colome on Tuesday in Corsica.

Scotland (6-6): Rylee Conrad recorded 19 assists and two aces. Kennedy Bietz added nine kills, eight digs and two aces for the Highlanders. Delanie VanDriel put down five kills and Grace Robb added eight digs. The Highlanders play Kimball/White Lake on Monday in White Lake.

Bridgewater-Emery 3, SCW 0

FORESTBURG -- Class B No. 4 Bridgewater-Emery earned another prep volleyball win on Friday over Sanborn Central/Woonsocket. Set scores were 25-13, 25-23 and 25-22.

Bridgewater-Emery (17-2): Kerrigan Schultz dished out 25 assists to go with five kills and five aces. Julia Weber added 17 digs, 16 kills, four aces and three blocks. Cara Meyer added 11 digs and Sara Hofer chipped in nine digs. The Huskies host Centerville on Tuesday.

Sanborn Central/Woonsocket (7-11): Morgan Schmiedt recorded 18 assists, 13 digs and two aces. Trista White and Cassidy Slykhuis both put down eight kills, while White chipped in 18 digs. Slykhuis finished with three blocks. The Blackhawks travel to Howard on Monday.

KWL 3, Wessington Springs 0

WESSINGTON SPRINGS -- Kimball/White Lake cruised past Wessington Springs for a sweep on Thursday. Set scores were 25-17, 25-14 and 25-13.

Kimball/White Lake (13-4): Dani Deffenbaugh had 10 digs, eight kills, six aces and three blocks for the WiLdKats. Kennedy Leiferman chipped in a team-high 10 kills. Madison Heath added eight digs and Ryann Nielsen dished out 18 assists in the win. The WiLdKats play Colome on Monday in White Lake.

Wessington Springs (5-12): Alyssa Grohs finished with eight assists and two aces. Sarah Poncelow had a team-best four kills. Trinity Flowers added 11 digs and Maddie Privett recorded 10 digs. The Spartans host Hitchcock-Tulare on Tuesday.
