Area volleyball roundup: MCM earns four-set road win after dropping first set to Hanson

Prep volleyball regular season action continues on the final Monday of October

ALEXANDRIA — McCook Central/Montrose dropped the first set before taking the final three to earn a road win over Hanson in the final regular-season match for both teams on Monday night. Set scores were 28-30, 25-11, 25-9 and 25-14.

McCook Central/Montrose (13-12): Tayah McGregor powered her way to a team-high 15 kills and five blocks. Michaela McCormick added eight kills, four digs and three aces. Brianna Even put up 40 assists and two aces for the Fighting Cougars, who have concluded their regular season schedule.

Hanson (6-21): Annalyse Weber had six kills, 13 digs and one ace, and Jalyn Kampshoff added nine digs and nine assists. The Beavers have concluded their regular season schedule.

Platte-Geddes 3, Winner 1

PLATTE — Platte-Geddes dropped the second set, but held off Winner in a four-set home win on Monday night. Set scores were 25-20, 22-25, 25-20 and 25-17.

Platte-Geddes (28-4): Karly VanDerWerff surpassed 1,000 kills for her career, as the sophomore powered her way to 28 kills, 15 digs, one block and one ace serve. Avery DeVries put up 41 assists, nine digs, two blocks and two aces, and Cadence Van Zee posted 11 kills, 15 digs and two aces. Regan Hoffman and Hadley Hanson each had four aces to go with 22 and 21 digs, respectively. The Black Panthers close the regular season at Ethan on Oct. 26.


Winner (16-13): Ellie Brozik notched a triple-double with 13 kills, 17 assists and 19 digs. Lexi Klein added 18 assists and 10 digs, and Cora Moss and Skyler Hansen each had two aces. The Warriors have concluded their regular season schedule.

Wagner 3, Burke 1

BURKE — Wagner wrapped up its regular season with a four-set road win over Burke on Monday night. Set scores were 25-17, 21-25, 25-21 and 25-19.

Wagner (24-6): Macy Koupal put up 45 assists and six ace serves, as Emma Yost (15 kills, 22 digs) Shalayne Nagel (11 kills, 20 digs) and Avari Bruguier (10 kills, 24 digs) all recorded double-doubles with kills and digs. Shona Kocer and Kya Kjeldgaard each had five blocks, and Nagel added four for the Red Raiders, who concluded their regular season schedule.

Burke (25-8): Adisyn Indahl recorded 21 kills and 31 digs, as Kailee Frank added 10 kills and 23 digs. Paige Bull and Hailey Haiar each had a block for the Cougars, who are at Lyman on Oct. 26.

Ethan 3, TDA 1

ETHAN — Ethan won a four-set home match against Tripp-Delmont/Armour on Monday night. Set scores were 25-12, 25-17, 23-25 and 25-21.

Ethan (16-12): Hannah Bartscher recorded a 20-kills, 20-dig double-double, as Bella Neshiem 12 chipped in 12 kills and 17 digs. Ava Lingemann put up 35 assists for the Rustlers, who host Platte-Geddes on Oct. 26.

Tripp-Delmont/Armour (16-13): Megan Reiner had 10 kills, 13 digs and two blocks, and Gracey Schatz contributed 17 kills and three blocks. Hannah Stremick put up 25 assists, 13 digs and three kills for the Nighthawks, who have concluded their regular season schedule.

Gayville-Volin 3, Avon 1

AVON — Gayville-Volin won the first, third and fourth sets to take a road win over Avon on Monday night. Set scores were 25-20, 18-25, 25-16 and 25-12.


Gayville-Volin (19-8): Jadyn Hubbard and Molly Larson had 18 and 16 kills, respectively, as Larson added 22 digs and two aces. Keeley Larson put up 39 assists and 13 digs for the Raiders, who travel to take on Colman-Egan on Oct. 28.

Avon (17-10): Tiffany Pelton powered her way to 13 kills, 16 digs, five blocks and one ace serve, as Courtney Sees contributed 11 kills, 17 digs and one block. McKenna Kocmich put up 28 assists, 11 digs and two aces for the Pirates, who visit Bon Homme on Oct. 26.

KWL 3, Colome 0

COLOME — Kimball/White Lake wrapped up its regular season with a straight-set road win over Colome on Monday night. Set scores were 25-8, 25-12 and 25-12.

Kimball/White Lake (16-10): Ryann Neilsen powered her way to 18 kills, 11 digs, 10 assists, five ace serves and three blocks. Dani Deffenbaugh chipped in a team-high 17 digs to go with eight kills, and Harley Namanny had eight aces. The Wildkats have concluded their regular season schedule.

Colome (8-20): Landi Krumpus and Ashlyn Hoffine had 10 and eight digs, respectively. Katie Welker added four kills while Toree Ringing Shield had three aces. Colome hosts Corsica-Stickney on Oct. 26.

Freeman 3, Canistota 0

CANISTOTA — Freeman defeated Canistota in straight sets on the road to pick up its 17th win of the season on Monday night. Set scores were 25-16, 25-16 and 25-19.

Freeman (17-9): Erin Uecker posted 10 kills, 10 digs and two blocks, and Kate Miller added six kills, 14 digs, two blocks and four ace serves. Ava Ammann put up 21 assists for the Flyers, who host Alcester-Hudson on Oct. 26.

Canistota (2-24): Sierra McGregor had a team-high 13 kills and one block, as Kayla Papendick contributed eight kills and 15 digs. Natalee Hofer had 10 digs, 10 assists and one block for the Hawks, who have concluded their regular season schedule.


Gregory 3, ACDC 0

GREGORY — Gregory swept Andes Central/Dakota Christian at home as both teams played their final match of the regular season on Monday night. Set scores were 25-16, 25-13 and 25-13.

Gregory (15-12): Jessy VanDerWerff notched nine kills, seven digs and two blocks. Brooklynn Kenzy added seven kills, nine assists and six aces, as Gracie Kenzy put up eight assists and eight digs. Cassidy Keiser recorded seven kills and 10 aces for the Gorillas, who have concluded their regular season schedule.

Andes Central/Dakota Christian (7-20): Lexi VanderPol had three kills, three blocks and an ace, and Allison Muckey chipped in four kills and five digs. The Thunder has concluded its regular season schedule.

Chamberlain 3, Lyman 1

CHAMBERLAIN — Chamberlain rebuffed Lyman at home to win a four-set match and wrap up the Cubs’ regular season on Monday night. Set scores were 25-13, 25-14, 22-25 and 25-18.

Chamberlain (8-20): Jayslee Petersen had nine kills to go with 16 digs and five ace serves. Chesney Mutziger put up 17 assists, seven digs and one ace, and Taryn Guinn chipped in six kills, seven digs, one ace and one block. The Cubs have concluded their regular season schedule.

Lyman (3-24): Skyler Volmer contributed three kills, 12 digs, four ace serves and one block, as Ellie Erikson had a team-high seven kills to go with five digs. Caysen Gran put up 21 assists for the Raiders, who host Burke on Oct. 26.
