Area volleyball roundup: MCM downs Bulldogs in four sets

SALEM -- Aleah Ries had 13 kills, 17 digs and five aces to pace McCook Central/Montrose in a four-set prep volleyball win over Baltic Monday night. Set scores were 25-17, 25-27, 25-10 and 25-23.

SALEM - Aleah Ries had 13 kills, 17 digs and five aces to pace McCook Central/Montrose in a four-set prep volleyball win over Baltic Monday night. Set scores were 25-17, 25-27, 25-10 and 25-23.

Jacy Pulse had 10 kills and three aces, while Leslie Kolbeck had nine kills and McKenna Kranz and Morgan Koepsell each had eight kills. Hayley Miles added 22 assists and Harley Miles had 23 digs for the Fighting Cougars.

Carrington Entringer had seven kills for Baltic, while Lexus Gorospe had 23 digs and Brooke VanDam added three aces and 11 assists.

MCM (10-8) visits Big East Conference rival Howard today. Baltic (12-6) heads to Alcester today to face Alcester-Hudson.

Avon 3, Mitchell Christian 1


AVON - Mitchell Christian denied the sweep but it was Avon with the four-set high school volleyball victory Monday night. Set scores were 25-11, 25-15, 15-25 and 25-14.

Kacie Mudder had eight kills, three aces, 11 digs and two blocks, while Cheylee Nagel had six kills, 11 digs and Livi Jurrens added nine digs and three aces for the Pirates, who won the JV match in three sets.

For the Golden Eagles, Erica Thompson had four aces. Anna Cooper had four kills and a block, while Grace Garrels had three kills and eight digs. Katelyn Karhoff had 11 digs for Mitchell Christian.

Avon (9-7) travels to Burke today to face Burke/South Central. Mitchell Christian (2-15) will host Hanson on Thursday.

Hanson 3, Viborg-Hurley 0

ALEXANDRIA - No. 3-ranked Hanson took down Viborg-Hurley Monday night in high school volleyball action, winning in three sets 25-10, 25-9 and 25-10.

Brookelyn Slaba had 11 kills and nine digs, while Alison Bahmuller had nine kills and six digs for the Beavers. Brookelyn Weber added eight kills, 12 digs and two aces, Heather Kayser had 30 set assists and Jada Campbell had 30 set assists.

For the Cougars, Kristen Rowley had four kills and Tori Hansen had 11 digs in the loss. Hanson won the JV match, as well.


Hanson (18-1) will visit Mitchell Christian on Thursday. Viborg-Hurley (2-13) will host Baltic on Thursday.

Wagner 3, Tripp-Delmont/Armour 0

ARMOUR - Wagner earned a road sweep at Tripp-Delmont/Armour in prep volleyball action Monday, winning 25-15, 25-19 and 25-15.

Abby Brunsing had 13 kills to lead the Red Raiders, while Carolyn Blaha had seven kills and Faith Tyler had six kills, 10 digs and four aces. Wagner's Sierra Juffer had a match-high 36 set assists.

The Nighthawks had six kills from Brianna Stoebner, while Erica Koster had 16 set assists and two aces for TDA. Wagner won the JV and C-squad matches.

Wagner (12-5) will host Scotland today. TDA (5-10) will head to Sanborn Central/Woonsocket on Thursday for a match in Forestburg.

Andes Cent./Dak. Christian 3, Corsica-Stickney 0

NEW HOLLAND - Beulah Black Cloud rattled off eight aces, six kills and nine digs, as Andes Central/Dakota Christian swept Corsica-Stickney in three sets of prep volleyball action Monday, winning 25-12, 25-18 and 25-17.


Taylor Gray had 28 assists, while Megan Mudder had nine kills and Tyra Medicine Horn had eight kills for the Thunder, which also picked up 15 digs from Brianna Deurmier.

Courtney Menning had four kills and three digs for the Jaguars, who won the JV game. Alissa Kuyper had two aces and six digs for C-S.

Andes Central/Dakota Christian (17-2) will have a week off before hosting Burke/South Central in Lake Andes Oct. 10. Corsica-Stickney (2-15) will host the same Cougars on Thursday in Corsica.
