Area volleyball roundup: Jaguars notch win over Spartans in 3 sets

WESSINGTON SPRINGS -- Corsica-Stickney improved to 9-1 with a sweep over Wessington Springs in prep volleyball action Tuesday. Set scores were 25-18, 25-7 and 25-15.

Corsica-Stickney (9-1): Marisa DeLange finished with 14 assists, five aces and eight kills. Paige Wright posted nine kills and Camden Plooster finished with eight assists. Morgan Clites finished with 10 digs, while Raven Barse added two blocks. Taryn Rexwinkel added two aces. The Jaguars play Tripp-Delmont/Armour on Thursday in Corsica.
Wessington Springs (4-5): Alyssa Grohs finished with 18 assists, while Grace Gran put down six kills and had 13 digs. Sarah Poncelow added five kills, while Cheyenne Burg had an ace and Avery Orth added a block. The Spartans play Andes Central/Dakota Christian on Friday in New Holland.

Platte-Geddes 3, MVP 1

PLATTE -- Platte-Geddes picked up a prep volleyball win over Mount Vernon/Plankinton on Tuesday. Set scores were 25-22, 17-25, 25-19 and 25-22.

Platte-Geddes (8-2): Karly VanDerWerff finished with 20 kills and 20 digs. Cadence Van Zee added 14 kills and 15 digs. Avery Devries finished with 34 assists and 16 digs. Regan Hoffman posted 25 digs and Addy Boltjes finished with seven kills. The Black Panthers travel to Canistota on Thursday.

Mount Vernon/Plankinton (7-7): Maria Baker and Haley Pickart posted six kills apiece. Baker added three aces and two blocks. Shyla Tobin recorded 26 assists and 20 digs. The Titans travel to Lennox on Monday.

Avon 3, Scotland 2

SCOTLAND -- Avon edged Scotland in five sets of a high school volleyball match on Tuesday. Set scores were 20-25, 25-18, 25-12, 22-25 and 15-10.

Avon (7-3): Tiffany Pelton posted 13 kills, seven blocks and two digs. Shalayne Nagel added 11 kills, six aces and two blocks. Hanna Miller finished with 10 kills, three blocks and three digs. Reese Powers added 18 assists and 12 digs. Katie Gretschmann posted 23 digs, while Sam Brodeen finished with 18 digs. McKenna Kocmich finished with 16 assists and nine digs. The Pirates play in the Great Plains Conference tournament on Saturday in Lake Andes.

Scotland (6-3): Grace Fryda finished with 16 kills and eight digs. Delanie VanDriel posted 11 kills and six digs. Makayla Friederich posted 14 digs and six kills. Rylee Conrad finished with 37 assists and six digs. Bailey Vitek and Grace Robb finished with eight and six digs, respectively. The Highlanders host Parkston on Thursday.

TDA 3, Centerville 1

TRIPP -- Tripp-Delmont/Armour took down Centerville in a high school volleyball match on Tuesday. Set scores were 11-25, 25-15, 25-12 and 25-13.

Tripp-Delmont/Armour (6-5): Gracey Schatz led TDA with 12 kills, while Megan Reiner posted 10 kills and four aces. Faith Werkmeister finished with nine kills and one block. Hannah Stremick added 17 assists, nine digs, five aces and seven kills. Bailey Spaans logged 17 assists, nine digs and five aces. Emma Fink finished with 10 digs. The Nighthawks play Corsica-Stickney on Thursday in Corsica.

Centerville (1-9): Ellie Hunter led the Tornadoes with 11 kills, 15 digs and five blocks. Mya Bendt added five kills and 12 digs. Bailey Hansen added 16 assists and 10 digs. The Tornadoes host Irene-Wakonda on Thursday.

KWL 3, Tri-Valley 2

KIMBALL -- Kimball/White Lake outlasted Tri-Valley in a five-set marathon volleyball match on Tuesday. Set scores were 20-25, 25-14, 25-19, 23-25 and 15-12.

Kimball/White Lake (6-3): Kennedy Leiferman finished with 15 kills, 12 digs, three aces and four blocks. Dani Deffenbaugh recorded nine kills, three aces, 14 digs and three blocks. Ryann Nielsen handed out 25 assists, while Harley Namanny logged six kills and two aces. The WiLdKats play Hanson on Thursday in White Lake.

Tri-Valley (3-4): Blayne Gacke led the way with 11 kills, 11 digs, six aces and two blocks. Jessica Masaai added 14 kills, two aces and two blocks. Brooklyn Stieben dished out 13 assists, while Grace Schildhauer posted 17 assists and six digs. Tabor Teel recorded eight kills, five digs and two aces. The Mustangs host McCook Central/Montrose on Thursday.

Colman-Egan 3, Howard 0

COLMAN --Colman-Egan swept Howard in straight sets of a prep volleyball match on Tuesday. Set scores were 25-14, 25-9 and 25-21.

Colman-Egan (12-2): Mackenzie Hemmer led the way with 14 kills and six blocks. Hailey Larson added eight kills and three digs. Olivia Baumberger finished with seven digs and four aces. Kennedi Landis recorded 15 assists, while Braiden Westley recorded 10 assists. The Hawks play Castlewood on Thursday in Colman.

Howard (6-8): Kate Connor finished with five kills and five blocks. Kate Feldhaus notched four kills, while Mia Glanzer finished with six assists. Emma Rudebusch logged six assists and Rylee Rudebusch had 13 digs. Piper Thompson posted six digs. The Tigers travel to Mitchell Christian on Thursday.

Menno 3, Irene-Wakonda 1

WAKONDA -- Menno defeated Irene-Wakonda in a prep volleyball match on Tuesday. Set scores were 26-24, 25-18, 21-25 and 25-18.

Menno (4-7): Jesse Munkvold finished with 15 kills, 19 digs, two aces and two blocks. Bridget Vaith added four kills and Paige Dyk added five kills and nine digs. Kaylie Schempp logged 21 digs. Kylie Harriman posted 20 assists and 21 digs. The Wolves host Bon Homme on Thursday.

Irene-Wakonda (6-10): Emma Orr led the Eagles with nine kills, 10 assists and 11 digs. Nora O’Malley finished with eight kills, four digs and four blocks. Willa Freeman posted 26 digs and Jordan Bak added 25 digs, while McKenna Mork had 12 assists and 11 digs. The Eagles travel to Centerville on Thursday.

MILLER -- Miller topped Chamberlain in straight sets in a high school volleyball match on Tuesday. Set scores were 25-22, 25-13 and 25-16.

Miller (2-6): Storm Johnsen led the Rustlers with 10 kills, six digs, two blocks and one ace. Ally Mullaney added six kills and nine aces. Alvena Batin dished out 23 assist and Macie Werdel added eight digs. The Rustlers play Mount Vernon/Plankinton on Oct. 6 in Mount Vernon.

Chamberlain (1-7): Caycee Guinn led the Cubs with five kills and one block, while Jayslee Peterson added two kills, three aces and five digs. Mya Knippling finished with two aces and one block. Emma Powers dished out three assists, while Kiera Eichstadt had four digs and two assists. The Cubs host Gregory on Thursday.

Highmore-Harrold 3, SCW 0

HIGHMORE -- Highmore-Harrold downed Sanborn Central/Woonsocket in straight sets of a prep volleyball match on Tuesday. Set scores were 25-16, 25-18 and 25-20.

Highmore-Harrold (9-2): Grace Knox finished with 11 kills and four blocks. Letha Jensen added 11 kills. Kassie Hale and Haley Husted added 14 and 12 kills, respectively. Courtney Moser dished out 20 assists. The Pirates play in the James Valley Christian tournament on Saturday in Huron.

Sanborn Central/Woonsocket (4-6): Trista White finished with eight kills, while Brooke Doering posted seven kills. Morgan Schmiedt and Teya Moody added seven digs apiece. Schmiedt added 14 assists and Cassidy Slykhuis added three blocks and Teya Moody had three aces. The Blackhawks play Wessington Springs on Monday in Woonsocket.
