Area volleyball roundup: Huskies notch win over Alcester-Hudson in Region 5B

EMERY -- Bridgewater-Emery punched its ticket to the SoDak 16 on Thursday with a straight set win over Alcester-Hudson in Region 5B action. Set scores were 25-21, 25-19, 25-21.

Bridgewater-Emery (20-2): Julia Weber finished with 24 digs and 14 kills. Kerrigan Schultz dished out 28 assists to go with 17 digs and six kills. Cara Meyer added 20 digs and three aces. Taylor Schallenkamp put down 12 kills. The Huskies play in the SoDak 16 on Tuesday.

Alcester-Hudson: Alyssa Keiser recorded 27 digs and four aces. Bayleigh Peterson chipped in 16 digs and eight assists. Emily Vander Feen added 18 digs and five kills. Veronica Rhead put down nine kills. Alcester-Hudson finishes the season 15-12.

Freeman 3, Gayville-Volin 0

GAYVILLE -- Freeman notched a sweep of Gayville-Volin on Thursday in Region 5B action to advance to the SoDak 16. Set scores were 29-27, 25-18 and 25-14.

Freeman (17-6): Rijjy Peterson stuffed the stat sheet with 19 digs, 15 kills, six blocks, three assists and two aces. Kate Miller chipped in 14 kills, 11 digs and four blocks. Lily Wipf added 36 digs, while Cara Maske recorded 32 assists. Freeman plays Chester Area on Tuesday in the SoDak 16.


Gayville-Volin: Kayla Vanosdel recorded 18 digs and 16 kills. Keeley Larson dished out 29 assists. Molly Larson and Ayla Dimmer added 27 and 26 digs, respectively. Jadyn Hubbard added 13 digs and seven kills. Gayville-Volin finishes the season 16-4.

Madison 3, Parkston 1

MADISON -- Parkston couldn’t complete a comeback against Madison on Thursday in Region 5A action. Set scores were 25-14, 25-14, 21-25, 25-16.

Madison (15-4): Abby Brooks finished with 23 kills and four blocks, while Sophia VandenBosch chipped in 24 digs and 17 kills. Autumn Barger added 17 digs and Kylie Krusemark dished out 45 assists in the win. Madison plays Garretson in the SoDak 16 on Tuesday.

Parkston: Emma Yost recorded 11 kills and three aces. C.C. Neugebauer chipped in 30 assists and 16 digs, while Maggie Baumgart added 10 kills and three blocks. Mya Nuebel finished with 10 digs. The Trojans finish the season 17-8.

Miller 3, Chamberlain 1

MILLER -- Miller advanced to the SoDak 16 with a four-set win over Chamberlain on Thursday in Region 6A play. Set scores were 25-13, 25-22, 22-25 and 25-14.

Miller (8-13): Storm Johnson finished with 25 digs, 12 kills and six aces in the win. Macie Werdel and Alvena Batin had 14 and 12 digs, respectively, while Batin also served three aces and dished out 27 assists. Miller plays Sioux Falls Christian in the SoDak 16 on Tuesday.

Chamberlain: No stats reported. Chamberlain finishes the season 4-14.

Winner 3, Belle Fourche 0

WINNER -- Winner cruised past Belle Fourche for a Region 7A/8A win on Thursday. Set scores were 25-21, 25-18 and 25-15.


Winner (21-4): Mackenzie Levi recorded 33 assists and 12 digs, while Kalla Bertram out down 13 kills. Ella Brozik chipped in 12 kills. Jenna Hammerbeck finished with 12 digs and three aces. The Warriors play Tea Area in the SoDak 16 on Tuesday.

Belle Fourche (7-13 before): Mataya Ward had a team-high six kills. McKenzie Lyons added 14 assists and Katie Mailloux added 13 digs. Belle Fourche finishes the season 7-14.

Corsica-Stickney 3, Platte-Geddes 1

BONESTEEL -- Corsica-Stickney knocked off Platte-Geddes and earned a spot in the SoDak 16 on Thursday. Set scores were 23-25, 26-24, 25-19 and 25-22

Corsica-Stickney (18-3): Raven Barse recorded 23 digs and 11 kills for the Jaguars. Barse also recorded her 1,000th career dig in the match. Morgan DeLange added 14 digs and 11 kills. Avery Broughton chipped in 17 digs and 10 kills, while Regan Gerlach added 17 digs. Morgan Clites recorded 30 digs and Sutten Eide chipped in 39 assists and 13 digs. Corsica-Stickney plays Castlewood in the SoDak 16 on Nov. 10.

Platte-Geddes: Cadence VanZee led the way with 16 kills and 11 digs. Karly VanDerWerff added 11 kills and 15 digs. Taryn Starr finished with eight kills, nine digs and four aces. Avery DeVries posted 30 assists and 13 digs. Regan Hoffman recorded 35 digs. Baleigh Nachtigal added 14 digs, five kills and four aces. Platte-Geddes finishes the season 17-8.

KWL 3, Avon 0

BONESTEEL -- Kimball/White Lake swept Avon and secured a spot in the SoDak 16 on Thursday. Set scores were 25-12, 25-18 and 25-16.

Kimball/White Lake (16-5): Kennedy Leiferman finished 16 kills, eight digs, four blocks and two aces. Danni Deffenbaugh put down 13 kills to go with eight kills. Alison Sinclair added eight kills. Ryann Nielsen dished out 28 assists and Madison Heath finished with 13 digs. KWL plays Faulkton Area or Bridgewater-Emery on Tuesday.

Avon: Hanna Miller posted six kills and two blocks. Shalayne Nagel logged five kills and two digs. McKenna Kocmich added seven assists and Reese Powers posted eight assists. Katie Gretschmann added 13 digs. Avon finishes the season 11-6.
