Area volleyball roundup: Howard edges Canistota in thriller

HOWARD -- Howard outlasted Canistota in a prep volleyball marathon match on Thursday. Set scores were 25-19, 18-25, 22-25, 25-19 and 16-14.

Howard (6-7): Madison Kizer led the way with 12 kills and Kate Conner added 10 kills. Emma Rudebusch finished with 15 assists. Mia Glanzer dished out 10 assists and added two aces. Kyra Shumaker recorded 17 digs and two aces. Piper Thompson finished with seven digs. The Tigers play Sanborn Central/Woonsocket on Monday in Forestburg.

Canistota (9-12): Harley Cormany led the Hawks with 17 kills, 26 digs and three aces. Kenzy Krinke picked up 14 kills. Skylar Bultje added 29 digs, three aces and two blocks. Hannah Parry notched 26 digs and 25 assists. Desiree Pierce added 42 digs. The Hawks play in the Gayville-Volin tournament on Saturday in Gayville.

Bridgewater-Emery 3, Avon 1

EMERY -- Bridgewater-Emery dropped the first set, but won the final three to take down Avon in four sets on Thursday. Set scores were 23-25, 25-16, 25-22 and 28-26.

Bridgewater-Emery (16-6): Julia Weber finished with 30 digs, 23 kills and two blocks. Sophia Potter added 31 assists for the Huskies, while Kerrigan Schultz recorded 20 assists and 18 digs. Cylie Kressman finished with 11 digs and five kills. Cara Meyer added 13 digs and Haley Schulz added nine kills and two blocks. Kennedee Weber recorded 10 kills and four digs in the win. The Huskies play Colman-Egan on Tuesday in Emery.


Avon (12-8): Madisyn Cameron stuffed the stat sheet for the Pirates, recording 39 assists, 14 digs, five aces and two blocks. Katie Gretschmann and Maddie Kocmich added 30 and 23 digs, respectively. Natalie Zacharias put down a team-high 13 kills. The Pirates play Tripp-Delmont/Armour on Tuesday in Tripp.

Scotland 3, Centerville 0

SCOTLAND -- Scotland knocked off Centerville in straight sets on Thursday in prep volleyball action. Set scores were 25-19, 25-18 and 25-13.

Scotland (8-8): Kennedy Bietz finished with 18 digs, 10 kills and four aces for the Highlanders. Rylee Conrad dished out 20 assists to go with eight difs. Delanie VanDriel recorded 11 digs, seven kills and two aces in the win. The Highlanders play in the Gayville-Volin tournament on Saturday in Gayville.

Centerville (2-15): Haley Meyer finished with 11 digs, five kills and three blocks for the Tornadoes, while Ellie Hunter added 13 digs and eight blocks. Mya Bendt recorded 13 digs to go with two aces. Bailey Hansen added eight digs and five assists. The Tornadoes play in the Gayville-Volin tournament on Saturday in Gayville.

Gayville-Volin 3, Menno 0

MENNO -- Gayville-Volin earned a straight set sweep against Menno on Thursday in prep volleyball action. Set scores were 25-7, 25-8 and 25-16.

Gayville-Volin (19-4): Jadyn Hubbard led the way with 10 kills and three digs. Samantha Olson added nine kills. Keeley Larson chipped in with 31 assists and Molly Larson had 18 digs. Olivia Petrik recorded 14 digs. Gayville-Volin hosts the Gayville-Volin tournament on Saturday in Gayville.

Menno (3-10): Jesse Munkvold led the Wolves with seven digs, five blocks and five kills. Kylie Harriman added 14 digs and five assists. Trinity Kocourek finished with seven digs and Kaylie Schempp recorded 11 digs. Menno plays in the Gayville-Volin tournament on Saturday in Gayville.
