Area volleyball roundup: Golden Eagles cruise past Bearcats

Mitchell Christian took down Freeman Academy/Marion on Tuesday in straight sets for a home win. Set scores were 25-17, 25-19 and 25-15.

Mitchell Christian (5-11): Maggie Reynen put down a team-high 11 kills, while Erica Thompson recorded 19 assists, 11 digs and four aces. Kaitlyn Tegethoff finished with 10 kills and two blocks. Lindy Hofer and Keely O’Neill chipped in 12 and 11 digs, respectively. Whisper Eben added 10 digs and three aces. The Golden Eagles next play in the Region 4B tournament.

Freeman Academy/Marion (0-12): Alivea Weber recorded three aces, two digs and two kills for the Bearcats. Zenovia Butler had five kills and Leah Goodwin added three digs. Maria Cortes dished out five assists. The Bearcats play Viborg-Hurley on Friday in Hurley.

Ethan 3, Platte-Geddes 2

PLATTE -- Ethan outlasted Platte-Geddes in a five-set marathon match on Tuesday. Set scores were 26-24, 25-18, 21-25, 18-2515-6

Ethan (11-10): Bella Nesheim erupted for 23 kills, 32 digs and four blocks. Hannah Bartscher posted 10 kills and 40 digs, while Emiley Hoffman added eight kills. Lexi Lingemann finished with 44 digs, six kills, three blocks and two aces. Ava Lingemann added 41 digs, 11 digs, seven aces and three kills. Jaya Kurtenbach finished with 14 digs. The Rustlers next play in the Region 4B tournament.

Platte-Geddes (16-7): Cadence Van Zee recorded 17 kills, 10 digs and seven aces. Karly VanDerWerff added 14 kills and eight digs. Avery DeVries handed out 34 assists and added 11 digs. Regan Hoffman finished with 29 digs, while Baleigh Nachtigal had 18 digs. Addy Boltjes posted six kills. The Black Panthers next play in the Region 6B tournament.

Scotland 3, Menno 2

MENNO -- Scotland outlasted Menno for a five-set win on Tuesday. Set scores were 25-16, 15-25, 25-18, 22-25 and 15-9.

Scotland (8-6): Delanie Vandriel recorded 16 kills and five digs, while Kennedy Bietz chipped in 10 kills and six digs. Rylee Conrad dished out 36 assists to go with four digs and four aces. Martina DeBoer added seven digs, six kills and four aces. Bailey Vitek had a team-high 10 digs. The Highlanders host Wagner on Friday.

Menno (8-12): Jesse Munkvold recorded 27 digs, 11 kills and two aces. Madelyn Heckenlaible and Bridget Vaith both had five kills, while Vaith also recorded five blocks. Kylie Harriman added 27 digs and 11 assists. Paityn Huber recorded 12 digs and seven assists. Raygen Diede served four aces. The Wolves host Andes Central/Dakota Christian on Thursday.

Wagner 3, TDA 0

Wagner -- Wagner knocked off Tripp-Delmont/Armour in straight sets on Tuesday. Set scores were 25-16, 25-21 and 25-9.

Wagner (9-5): Abby Brunsing recorded 23 digs and 12 kills, while Madi Knebel added 13 digs. Macy Koupal finished with 21 assists and three aces. Avari Bruguier and Shona Kocer both put down eight kills. Paige Petry chipped in 12 assists in the win. The Red Raiders travel to Scotland on Friday.

Tripp-Delmont/Armour (8-11): Gracey Schatz recorded 10 kills, while Hannah Stremick chipped in 18 assists and 12 digs in the loss. Bailey Spaans finished with eight assists, eight kills and two aces. Ally Bertram added 11 digs. The Nighthawks next play in the Region 6B tournament.

Parkston 3, KWL 1

WHITE LAKE -- Parkston staved off Kimball/White Lake’s comeback with a four-set win on Tuesday. Set scores were 25-23, 25-20, 16-25 and 25-15.

Parkston (16-6): Maggie Baumgart put down 14 kills and eight blocks. Tiah Holzbauer added 18 digs, while C.C. Neugebauer dished out 34 assists. Allison Ziebart chipped in 11 digs, nine kills, three blocks and two aces. The Trojans host Parker on Friday.

Kimball/White Lake (14-5): Kennedy Leiferman recorded 12 kills, 10 digs, four blocks and two aces. Ryann Nielsen dished out 20 assists to go with three blocks and two aces. Madison Heath added 20 digs and Dani Deffenbaugh recorded 10 digs, nine kills, three blocks and three aces. The WiLdKats play Lyman on Friday in Kimball.

PLANKINTON -- Mount Vernon/Plankinton earned its 10th win of the year on Tuesday, as the Titans swept Sanborn Central/Woonsocket. Set scores were 25-23, 25-19 and 26-24.

Sanborn Central/Woonsocket (8-12): Morgan Schmiedt finished with 19 digs, 16 assists and two aces. Cassidy Slykhuis recorded 12 digs and five kills. Brooke Doering chipped in 10 digs and eight kills. The Blackhawks next play in the Region 4B tournament.

Mount Vernon/Plankinton (10-10): Shyla Tobin dished out 30 assists to go with 17 digs and two aces. Tessa Pickart added 20 digs. Haley Pickart and Maria Baker had 14 and 11 kills, respectively. The Titans play Miller on Friday in Plankinton.

Bridgewater-Emery 3, Centerville 0

EMERY -- Class B No. 4 Bridgewater-Emery didn’t drop a set on Tuesday in a straight set win over Centerville. Set scores were 25-14, 25-10 and 25-9.

Bridgewater-Emery (18-2): Julia Weber recorded 14 kills and 10 digs for the Huskies, while Kerrigan Schultz added 25 assists and 12 digs. Taylor Schallenkamp recorded seven kills, six digs and two blocks. The Huskies next play in the Region 5B tournament.

Centerville (3-16): Mya Bendt recorded 15 digs and four kills. Sophie Eide finished with 13 digs and three kills. Macey Hostetler added five assists and five digs. Bailey Hansen dished out six assists. The Tornadoes next play in the Region 5B tournament.

Howard 3, Irene-Wakonda 1

HOWARD -- Howard handed Irene-Wakonda a prep volleyball defeat on Tuesday. Set scores were 25-18, 19-25, 25-15 and 25-20.

Howard (8-12): Aleya Kizer finished with 15 kills, while Kate Connor posted eight blocks and six kills. Piper Thompson finished with five kills and eight digs. Emma Rudebusch added 14 assists, while Mia Glanzer dished out 13 assists and added three aces. Katlin Schlims finished with 15 digs and two aces. The Tigers next play in the Region 4B tournament.

Irene-Wakonda (9-14): Nora O’Malley finished with nine kills and three blocks. Emma McDonald added six kills and 18 digs. Emma Orr handed out 17 assists. The Eagles next play in the Region 5B tournament.

Freeman 3, Alcester-Hudson 1

ALCESTER -- Freeman rattled off three straight set wins on Tuesday to down Alcester-Hudson on Tuesday. Set scores were 15-25, 25-23, 27-25 and 25-9.

Freeman (15-6): Rijjy Peterson finished with 27 digs, 16 kills, three blocks and three aces. Kate Miller added 25 digs and seven kills, while Odalite Pankratz chipped in 26 digs. Cara Maske dished out 30 assists to go with 20 digs. Lily Wipf recorded 22 digs. The Flyers next play in the Region 5B tournament.

Alcester-Hudson (13-12): No stats reported. The Cubs next play in the Region 5B tournament.

Hitchcock-Tulare 3, Wessington Springs 0

WESSINGTON SPRINGS -- Hitchcock-Tulare picked up its 15th win of the season on Tuesday with a sweep of Wessington Springs. Set scores were 25-13, 25-10 and 25-13.

Hitchcock-Tulare (15-4): Kenidee Enander dished out 30 assists and served five aces in the win. Ashley Masat had a team-high 10 kills. The Patriots next play in the Region 3B tournament.
