Area volleyball roundup: Corsica-Stickney stages comeback against Castlewood, punches ticket to state

CASTLEWOOD -- Corsica-Stickney rallied from a 2-0 deficit and qualified for the Class B state volleyball tournament on Tuesday. The Jaguars defeated Castlewood 26-28, 25-27, 25-23, 25-14 and 17-15 in a SoDak 16 volleyball match.

Corsica-Stickney (19-3): Paige Wright served a team-high four aces, while Sutten Eide dished out 58 assists. Avery Broughton added 17 kills and nine blocks. Morgan Delange and Raven Barse finished with 17 and 14 kills, respectively, while Barse also added 20 digs. Rachel Gerlach finished with 33 digs and Morgan Clites chipped in 37 digs. Corsica-Stickney will play Northwestern on Nov. 19 in the opening round at state.

Castlewood: Gracie Haug dished out 21 assists. Darah Dekam put down 17 kills and 30 digs and MacKenzie Everson added 37 digs. Madeline Horn finished with 34 digs. Castlewood finishes the season 17-6.

Chester Area 3, Freeman 0

CHESTER -- Chester Area eliminated Freeman in three sets in SoDak 16 volleyball action on Tuesday. Set scores were 25-23, 25-13 and 25-13.

Chester Area (21-1): Ella Pry, Breckyn Ewoldt and Serena Larson each put down eight kills apiece. Pry added three blocks, while Jayda Kenyon recorded two blocks and five aces. Kenna Brown dished out 32 assists and Emery Larson logged six digs. Carly Becker added two aces. Chester Area plays Faulkton Area in the first round.

Freeman: Rijjy Peterson and Kate Miller finished with eight and six kills, respectively. Miller had two blocks and Peterson logged a block. Cara Maske dished out 21 assists. Lily Wipf and Erin Uecker had 10 and nine digs, respectively. Freeman finishes the season 17-7.

Winner 3, Tea Area 0

WINNER -- Winner advanced to its third straight Class A state volleyball tournament on Tuesday. The Warriors swept Tea Area 25-19, 25-14 and 25-11 in straight sets in a SoDak 16 match.

Winner (22-4): Ellie Brozik led the Warriors with 16 kills, while Kalla Bertram posted seven kills, 10 digs and three aces. Mackenzie Levi finished with 24 assists and 10 digs. Maggie LaCompte and Jenna Hammerbeck both posted 10 digs apiece. Winner’s first-round opponent is to be determined.

Tea Area: Lizzy Spah led the Titans with seven kills, while Liv Ritter added six kills, four blocks and two aces. Kennedy Conrad added 14 assists and nine digs. Cassidy Gors added 23 digs. Tea Area finishes the season 16-12.
