Area prep volleyball roundup: Hawks down Wolves

CANISTOTA--Three Canistota players recorded 12 or more kills to lead the Hawks over Menno 3-1 in a high school volleyball match on Tuesday in Canistota. Set scores were 25-12, 21-25, 25-21 and 25-17.

CANISTOTA-Three Canistota players recorded 12 or more kills to lead the Hawks over Menno 3-1 in a high school volleyball match on Tuesday in Canistota. Set scores were 25-12, 21-25, 25-21 and 25-17.

MiKenzie Kirby had 13 kills, 14 digs and three aces, Noelle Hofer had 12 kills, 18 digs and two aces and Jordan Engbrecht recorded 12 kills and 13 digs for Canistota.

For Menno, Paige Heckenlaible had 11 kills, five blocks and eight digs, Kiara Nusz had five kills, four digs, two aces, one block and one assist and Hailey Fergen finished with 18 assists, 10 digs and three kills.

Canistota (14-4) plays at Howard on Thursday. Menno (7-7) plays Gayville-Volin on Thursday in Menno.

Winner 3, Gregory 0

WINNER-Winner swept Gregory 25-10, 25-10 and 25-16 in a prep volleyball game on Tuesday in Winner.

Abby Marts led the Warriors with 13 kills, nine digs, one ace and one block, while Morgan Hammerbeck had 11 digs, eight kills and six aces. JaiWanda Roubideaux had five kills and Addy Root finished with 31 assists, five digs and one ace. No stats for Gregory were reported.

Winner (12-5) hosts White River on Thursday in Winner. Gregory (10-8) hosts Platte-Geddes on Thursday.

Ethan 3, Wessington Springs 0

ETHAN-Ethan swept Wessington Springs 25-17, 25-12 and 25-11 in a prep volleyball match on Tuesday in Ethan.

Karly Gustafson powered the Rustlers with 15 kills and two blocks. Jada Plastow added eight kills, two aces and two blocks. Cameryn Logan notched six kills, Maddie Miiller had 14 digs and Kailey Feiner had 13 digs. Jessica Bartscher dished out 21 assists and added four aces.

For Wessington Springs, Cadee Schelske had two kills and Sierra Burg had four digs. Piper Jones recorded two aces and Chasity Vissia had five assists.

Wessington Springs won the JV match.

Ethan (16-3) plays No. 3 Hanson on Oct. 12 in Ethan. Wessington Springs (4-10) plays Highmore-Harrold on Thursday in Highmore.

Wagner 3, Scotland 1

WAGNER-Faith Tyler's double-double propelled Wagner past Scotland 3-1 in prep volleyball action on Tuesday in Wagner. Set scores were 25-7, 25-17, 20-25 and 25-17.

Tyler had 13 kills and 19 digs, while Abby Brunsing recorded 13 kills, Schylar Juffer had 24 digs, Sierra Juffer added 32 assists and Maesa Dvorak had four aces and three blocks.

For Scotland, Taylor Gall had 14 kills and 18 digs, Kennedy Bietz had four aces and 10 digs and Taylor Bietz added 20 assists.

Wagner (13-5) plays Chester Area on Saturday in Chester. Scotland (1-13) plays Parker on Thursday in Scotland.

Kimball/White Lake 3, Chamberlain 0

KIMBALL-Kimball/White Lake topped Chamberlain 28-26, 25-22 and 25-14 in a high school volleyball match on Tuesday in Kimball.

Kennedy Leiferman paced Kimball/White Lake with 12 kills, 10 digs and three aces. Grace Konechne notched eight kills, six digs, six aces and one block in the win. Heather Munsen added 10 digs and 22 assists. Sara Kunnari finished with one block, five kills, five aces and seven digs.

For Chamberlain, Hannah Anderson and Avany Long had six kills and four kills, respectively. Izzy Tyrell dished out 12 assists and Jamie Pazour had 10 digs. Paige Reuer had four blocks and Brenna Comfert had three aces.

Chamberlain won the JV match.

KWL (15-3) plays at Parkston on Thursday. Chamberlain (5-12) hosts Mount Vernon/Plankinton on Thursday in Chamberlain.

Burke/South Central 3, Avon 0

BURKE-Burke/South Central topped Avon 3-0 in a prep volleyball game on Tuesday in Burke. Set scores were 25-14, 25-14 and 25-22.

Taylee Indahl led B/SC with 19 kills, eight digs, two blocks and two aces. Lahna Matucha recorded 16 digs, nine kills and five aces. Tressa Bull had nine kills. Ryahna Schweigert added 13 digs, while Teah Serr had 11 digs and two aces. Bobbi Jo Wischmann dished out 30 assists.

For Avon, Cheylee Nagel had four kills, nine digs, two blocks and three aces, while Lauren Sees added four kills and 12 digs.

B/SC won the JV and C matches.

Burke/South Central (15-3) plays at Corsica-Stickney on Thursday in Corsica. Avon (9-8) plays Bridgewater-Emery on Thursday in Emery.

Freeman 3, Bon Homme 0

TYNDALL-Freeman swept Bon Homme 25-19, 25-19 and 25-11 in a prep volleyball match on Tuesday in Tyndall.

Emily Miller led Freeman with 14 kills, two aces and one block. Dayna Roth recorded nine kills and one block. Karli Maske led the team in digs with 11. Josie Fuhrmann dished out 23 assists and had eight digs. Jaimie Glanzer had 10 digs.

For Bon Homme, Ciera Himes put down six kills and had 11 digs, while also recording two blocks. Emily Cap had 21 digs and Johanna Jelsma had a team-high 10 assists. Kenzie Carson had four blocks.

Freeman (13-5) plays Avon on Oct. 12 in Freeman. Bon Homme (1-19) plays at Scotland on Tuesday.

Parkston 3, Platte-Geddes 1

PARKSTON-Parkston topped Platte-Geddes 25-21, 25-22, 19-25 and 25-19 in a high school volleyball match on Tuesday in Parkston..

Sammi Murtha led Parkston with 19 assists, seven kills and four aces. Paige Semmler had 14 kills and 22 digs. Lauren Reiner finished with eight kills and Faith Rands recorded 28 digs, to go along with four aces.

For Platte-Geddes, Tori Weins had six blocks and 14 kills. Courtney Neuman had 25 assists and Carly Sprik had seven kills.

Parkston (9-10) hosts Kimball/White Lake on Thursday in Parkston. Platte-Geddes (5-10) plays at Gregory on Thursday.

Sanborn Central/Woonsocket 3, Sunshine Bible Academy 1

FORESTBURG-Abby Doering and Tesa Jensen powered Sanborn Central/Woonsocket to a 3-1 prep volleyball victory over Sunshine Bible Academy on Tuesday in Forestburg. Set scores were 25-13, 25-19, 20-25 and 25-17.

Doering recorded 17 kills, four aces and three blocks. Jensen had 15 kills. Tristan Ziebart dished out 33 assists and added three kills. Erica Howard added five aces and Alissa Ball had 17 digs. Madi Moody added 14 digs and Taryn Ziebart had two aces.

For SBA, Lindsey Wilken had 11 kills and six blocks.

SCW (12-6) plays Tripp-Delmont/Armour on Thursday in Forestburg. SBA (4-13) plays Iroquois on Thursday in Iroquois.

Colome swept at home quad

COLOME-Colome dropped a pair of matches during its home quadrangular on Tuesday in Colome. The Cowgirls lost to Ainsworth (Neb.) 20-25, 25-16, 23-25, 25-12 and 15-12. Colome lost to North Central (Neb.) 25-6, 25-15 and 25-20.

Against Ainsworth, Maggie McCarty and Kaydee Heath recorded seven and six kills, respectively. Heath and Saydee Heath both had six blocks. Alexa McKenzie and Rayne Hermsen had 15 and 11 digs, respectively. Abby Kortan had 11 assists and Makayla Shippy had nine assists.

Against North Central, Kortan had six assists and four kills. Kaydee Heath added three kills and Shippy had eight assists. Shippy added two aces. McKenzie recorded 10 digs and Hermsen had eight digs.

Colome (4-13) plays Todd County on Thursday in Mission.

HOWARD-McCook Central/Montrose defeated Howard 25-15, 25-16 and 25-17 in prep volleyball action on Tuesday. No information was reported.
