Area prep baseball: Tea stifles McCook, 3-0

SALEM - Dallas Gjertson pitched a complete game six-hitter and the Tea prep baseball team shut out McCook Wednesday, 3-0 in Salem.

Tea scored one run each in the first, fifth and seventh innings. Brian Finn had all three RBI for the Titans in a 2-for-3 game. Tea got on the board early with a run scoring on an error. Gjertson also had a double for Tea (3-7) at the plate.

Jordan Genzlinger led the way for McCook in the loss, allowing one earned run in five innings pitched and striking out 10 batters. He had a 2-for-2 day at the plate, including a double. Trever Wilkinson had a double for McCook, as well.

McCook (5-2) returns to the diamond against Tri-Valley, with a 5:30 p.m. game Friday at Colton.

Hanson County 16, Canton 1 (4 innings)

ALEXANDRIA - Eight runs in the first inning and seven more in the second frame helped the Hanson County prep baseball team to a 16-1 win over Canton in four inning Wednesday in Alexandria.

The Ducks drew 12 walks and had nine hits. Sam Arend had a three-RBI game, including a double. Tate Deinert had a double, two RBIs and two stolen bases. Wyatt Kayser scored three runs and had two hits, while Aaron Wenande stole two bases and scored two runs.

Trent Kingsbury pitched a complete game on the hill for the victory, striking out six and allowing three hits in four innings. Alex Dejong was the losing pitcher, allowing nine earned runs.

Hanson County (6-2) hosts Sioux Falls Christian at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, followed by a game with McCook at 1 p.m. Sunday.

Winner/Colome 9, Platte-Geddes/Dakota Christian/White Lake 0

PLATTE-Reed Harter was dominant on the mound for Winner/Colome Wednesday night, as the University of Sioux Falls recruit pitched six shutout innings in a 9-0 win against Platte-Geddes/Dakota Christian/White Lake in Platte.

Harter also recorded seven strikeouts and gave up one hit in the win. The Royals scored five unearned runs in the second, capitalizing on four PGDCWL errors. Winner/Colome continued to score unearned runs in the top of the fifth, racking up four runs on two Honkers errors. PGDCWL didn't have a man reach base until the fourth inning, as it drew two walks.

Blake Moke took the loss for PGDCWL, pitching three innings and giving up five runs (none earned) on two hits and four walks while striking out four batters.

Winner/Colome (9-0) faces Todd County on Sunday in Mission, while the Honkers (4-2) take on South Central on Sunday in Platte.
