Area Legion playoff roundup: Winner/Colome rallies back to beat Platte/Geddes

WAGNER -- A late three-run push in the eighth inning allowed Winner/Colome to squeak past Platte/Geddes in a winner's bracket game Thursday at the Region 4B Legion baseball tournament.

WAGNER - A late three-run push in the eighth inning allowed Winner/Colome to squeak past Platte/Geddes in a winner's bracket game Thursday at the Region 4B Legion baseball tournament.

Kelly O'Bryan's single to center field scored Reed Harter to tie the game at 10-10 in the eighth inning and Drew DeMers' ensuing single gave the Royals the lead at 11-10. O'Bryan, Harter and DeMers each had two hits, with O'Bryan driving in three runs and teammate Nick Lantz knocking in four runs.

Ty Bolton started the game for Winner/Colome, allowing seven runs (five earned) and four hits in 2 1/3 innings before giving way to Harter, who earned the win in relief. Harter threw 6 2/3 innings without allowing a hit, three runs (none earned) and struck out eight.

For Platte/Geddes, Seth Kirsch drove in three runs and scored three runs. Blake Moke and Dylan Mohnen each scored two runs for P/G, which drew 10 walks but only had four hits.

Riley Hoffman threw six innings, allowing seven hits, eight runs (seven earned) and striking out six. Kirsch took the loss in relief, allowing three earned runs on three hits in two innings, while striking out four.

Winner/Colome advances to the winner's bracket semifinals today, where they will face Parkston at 3 p.m. Platte/Geddes will play an elimination game at about 5:30 p.m. today against Wagner.

Wagner 8, Gregory/Burke 3

WAGNER - Derek Soukup and Alex Sully each drove in three runs to help keep Wagner alive in the Region 4B Legion baseball tournament Thursday, topping Gregory/Burke 8-3 in Wagner.

Sully was 4-for-5 at the plate in the win. Drue Soukup scored three runs, while Derek Soukup and Andrew Soukup each added two runs scored. Derek Soukup had three of Wagner's six stolen bases in the win.

Hunter Hewitt picked up the win for Wagner, throwing seven innings in relief, allowing two hits and striking out 10. Mato Perry threw two innings to open the game, allowing a run and a hit, while walking four.

Gregory got a complete-game effort from pitcher Seth Pistulka, who threw nine innings, allowed nine hits, eight runs (seven earned) and struck out five. Joseph Veskrna had two hits and an RBI, while Pistulka and Brock Karbo each added RBIs.

Wagner outhit Gregory/Burke 9-5 in the victory, committing two errors to Gregory/Burke's four.

Wagner will take on Platte/Geddes at 5:30 p.m. today for an elimination game contest, while Gregory/Burke was knocked out of the tournament with the loss.

Region 5B

Alexandria 11, McCook/Miner 7

HUMBOLDT - Alexandria jumped out to a 3-run lead after the first inning and fended off a McCook/Miner comeback, winning 11-7 to stay alive in the Region 5B Legion baseball tournament on Thursday in Humboldt.

Wyatt Kayser earned the win on the mound for Alexandria. Kayser pitched a complete game, allowing seven runs (six earned) on 12 hits with four strikeouts.

Aaron Wenande went 2-for-3 with a double, an RBI and three runs scored, while Kayser added two RBIs.

For McCook/Miner, Cole Gassman took the loss, allowing eight runs (six earned) on five hits with 11 strikeouts in 5 2/3 innings pitched.

Gassman had two RBIs for McCook/Miner, while Collin Cleveland went 3-for-5 with a triple and an RBI and Kohl Miller added a double, an RBI and a run scored.

McCook/Miner outhit Alexandria 12-8 and both teams committed one error.

Alexandria continues play in the consolation bracket, facing Tabor in an elimination game at 5 p.m. today in Humboldt. McCook/Miner ends its season at 13-11.

Humboldt/Hartford 11, Tabor 1 (seven innings)

HUMBOLDT-Blake Svoboda pitched Humboldt/Hartford into the Region 5B championship game as the team defeated Tabor 11-1 in seven innings in a Legion baseball game on Thursday in Humboldt.

Svoboda pitched a complete game two-hitter, allowing one unearned run and recording 13 strikeouts.

Hunter Young took the loss for Tabor, allowing four earned runs on eight hits in four innings pitched. Chase Kortan and Cole Uecker had the lone hits for Tabor, with Uecker scoring the team's only run.

For Humboldt/Hartford Aaron Mallinger had a home run and three RBIs, while Joseph Hanisch added three hits and four RBIs.

Humboldt/Hartford finished the game with 15 hits and one error, while Tabor had two hits, no errors and six runners left on base.

Tabor will face Alexandria in an elimination game at 5 p.m. today with the winner facing Humboldt/Hartford in the championship game after that game in Humboldt.
