Area high school volleyball roundup: TDA takes down Mitchell Christian

Brianna Stoebner's 23 digs, two blocks and six kills Thursday helped Tripp-Delmont/Armour spoil Mitchell Christian's homecoming in four sets Thursday in prep volleyball action in Mitchell.

Brianna Stoebner's 23 digs, two blocks and six kills Thursday helped Tripp-Delmont/Armour spoil Mitchell Christian's homecoming in four sets Thursday in prep volleyball action in Mitchell.

Set scores were 25-20, 23-25, 25-18 and 25-10.

Also for TDA, Erica Koster had 18 digs, 21 assists and four aces, while Matti Reiner had eight kills.

Kaitlyn Asmus led the Mitchell Christian effort by picking up 15 digs and knocking down nine kills. Erica Thompson assisted on 17 points and Colette Haag served three aces.

TDA (2-9) plays Parkston on Tuesday in Tripp. Mitchell Christian (2-12) plays at Howard on Tuesday.

Gregory 3

Corsica-Stickney 1

GREGORY - After splitting the first two sets, Gregory pulled away from Corsica-Stickney by winning the next two sets and picking up the victory on Thursday night in prep volleyball play.

Set scores were 25-9, 15-25, 25-21 and 25-15.

Maddie Eklund propelled the Gorillas with 30 digs on the night, while Hannah Juracek had 10 kills and Alexa Hannahs tallied 26 assists.

Courtney Menning had 10 kills in the loss for Corsica-Stickney and Kassidy Clark had 20 assists.

Gregory (7-7) plays at White River on Tuesday. Corsica-Stickney (1-9) travels to Wessington Spring on Monday.

Menno 3

Freeman 1

FREEMAN - Ashton Vaith's 13 kills and 20 digs helped spark Menno to a four-set victory over Freeman on Thursday night in prep volleyball action.

Set scores were 25-18, 25-16, 20-25 and 25-12.

Marissa Buechler had three kills, 10 assists and 12 digs to help the Wolves to a win.

In the loss, Josie Fuhrmann had five kills, 24 assists, and two digs for Freeman. Dayna Roth had nine kills and six digs for the Flyers

Menno (5-6) plays Irene-Wakonda on Tuesday in Wakonda. Freeman (4-5) travels to Kimball on Saturday to play in the Kimball/White Lake Tournament.

Mount Vernon/Plankinton 3

MOUNT VERNON - Destiney Haak's 12 kills, four blocks and three aces helped lead No. 5 Mount Vernon/Plankinton to a straight-set victory over Canton on Thursday night.

Set scores were 25-11, 25-22 and 25-5.

Also for MVP, Katlyn Briggs had seven kills and Erin Denning amassed 27 assists.

Elizabeth Woods had two aces and three assists in the loss for Canton.

MVP (8-3) travels to Sioux Falls on Saturday to play in the Sanford Pentagon Classic.

McCook Central/Montrose 3

Parkston 0

MONTROSE - In a battle of Region 5A foes, McCook Central/Montrose swept Parkston on Thursday night in prep volleyball action.

Set scores were 25-18, 25-23 and 25-16.

Danielle Hansen's 14 kills and three aces powered the MCM offense. Harley Miles led the defense with 13 digs to go with her four aces.

For Parkston, Sammi Murtha contributed 16 assists, seven digs and two aces in the loss. Paige Semmler had eight kills and four digs.

McCook Central/Montrose (8-7) travels to Dell Rapids on Tuesday to play Dell Rapids. Parkston (8-7) hosts Mount Vernon/Plankinton on Tuesday in Parkston.

Avon 3

Irene-Wakonda 1

AVON - Avon picked up its third win of the season by downing Irene-Wakonda in four sets on Thursday night.

Set scores were 25-15, 25-21, 23-25 and 25-16.

Kacie Mudder had a good night for the Pirates as she compiled eight kills, 14 digs, five blocks and four aces to lead Avon to victory. Livi Jurrens racked up 12 kills and three blocks.

In the loss, Adriana McDonald had ten kills, four digs and one ace for Irene-Wakonda.

Avon (3-8) travels to Sioux Falls on Saturday to play in the Sanford Pentagon Classic. Irene-Wakonda (1-10) plays at Canton on Monday.

Ethan 3

Scotland 0

SCOTLAND - Ethan breezed by Scotland on Thursday night for a road prep volleyball victory.

Set scores were 25-16, 25-9 and 25-13.

For Ethan, Kacey Bartscher had 33 assists on the night to go with seven digs and one kill. Karly Gustafson knocked down 15 kills and Janae Gustafson contributed 14 digs and six kills.

Scotland was paced by Elyssa Walloch's eight kills, seven digs and one ace. Taylor Bietz had 13 assists and 14 digs for the Highlanders.

Ethan (12-3) plays Bridgewater-Emery in Emery on Tuesday. Scotland (4-8) plays Avon on Tuesday in Scotland.

Sanborn Central/Woonsocket 3

Iroquois 0

WOONSOCKET - Sanborn Central/Woonsocket picked up its third straight win on Thursday night by beating Iroquois in straight sets.

Set scores were 25-14, 25-7 and 25-17.

Myah Selland powered the Blackhawks with 11 kills and two aces. Kayla Olson assisted on 10 points and Maddie Vermeulen racked up five aces.

Sanborn Central/Woonsocket (7-4) plays Highmore-Harrold on Tuesday in Highmore

Canistota 3

Bridgewater-Emery 1

CANISTOTA - Mikenzie Kirby's 16 digs and 11 kills helped Canistota beat Bridgewater-Emery in four sets on Thursday night.

Set scores were 25-16, 18-25, 25-15 and 25-11.

The Hawks picked up 10 kills and 13 digs from Kalli Ortman and Cassidy Keller had 21 digs and four aces.

Bridgewater-Emery received 17 digs and seven kills from Kadra Kayser in the loss.

Canistota (8-5) travels to Kimball on Saturday to play in the Kimball/White Lake Tournament. Bridgewater-Emery (7-5) will also play Saturday to play in the Sanford Pentagon Classic in Sioux Falls.

Bon Homme 3

Burke/South Central 1

TYNDALL - Jeni Schmidt and Sierra Mesman powered No. 3 Bon Homme to a 3-1 win over Burke/South Central on Thursday in Tyndall.

Set scores were 25-22, 25-20, 25-27 and 25-13.

Schmidt led the Cavaliers with 24 kills and 15 digs, while Mesman also had a double-double with 17 kills and 11 digs. Mesman also had two blocks.

Brecken Bullard added 11 digs and four kills for Bon Homme, while Deann Jelsma dished out 33 assists.

Taylee Indahl paced Burke/South Central with 26 kills, 14 digs and three blocks. Brianna Johnson and Ryanna Schweigert had 13 and 12 digs, respectively. Madison Wischmann contributed 37 digs.

Bon Homme (17-1) plays Dakota Valley on Tuesday in North Sioux City. Burke/South Central (7-5) plays Saturday in the Kimball/White Lake Tournament.

Freeman Academy/Marion 3

Andes Central/Dakota Christian 1

FREEMAN - Freeman Academy/Marion took a pair of hard-fought sets late to pull away from Andes Central/Dakota Christian in prep volleyball action Thursday in Freeman.

Set scores were 25-11, 24-26, 29-27 and 28-26.

Chelsea Heeg had three aces, 21 kills, two assists, 12 digs and three blocks for the Bearcats. Amy Ptak had two aces, 46 assists and three digs in the win.

For ACDC, Taylor Gray had 21 assists, six digs, three aces. Megan Mudder had nine kills, 22 digs and three aces.

Freeman Academy/Marion (6-4) travels to Sioux Falls on Saturday to play in the Sanford Pentagon Classic. ACDC (5-8) hosts Colome on Tuesday in Lake Andes.
