Area high school volleyball roundup: Cougars top Corsica-Stickney

CORSICA -- Taylee Indahl recorded 14 kills, six digs, one block and one ace as Burke/South Central topped Corsica-Stickney 3-0 in a prep volleyball match on Thursday in Corsica. Set scores were 25-15, 25-23 and 25-9.

CORSICA -- Taylee Indahl recorded 14 kills, six digs, one block and one ace as Burke/South Central topped Corsica-Stickney 3-0 in a prep volleyball match on Thursday in Corsica. Set scores were 25-15, 25-23 and 25-9.

Lahna Matucha had six kills, 11 digs and five aces, while Bobbi Jo Wischmann added 20 assists, nine digs and three aces. For the Jaguars, Jenna Bamberg had three kills and three aces, Haley Johnson had three blocks, one kill and one assists and Courtney Menning finished with one kill, one block, two digs and two aces.

Burke/South Central (16-3) plays Tripp-Delmont/Armour on Saturday in Armour. Corsica-Stickney (2-16) plays at Mitchell Christian on Tuesday in Mitchell.  

Hanson 3, Mitchell Christian 0

Allison Bahmuller recorded 12 kills and four blocks as Hanson downed Mitchell Christian 3-0 in a prep volleyball match on Thursday in Mitchell. Set scores were 25-2, 25-5, 25-15.


Heather Kayser had 31 assists and five aces and Brooke Slaba added eight kills and six digs. For MCS, Grace Garrels had 11 digs and three kills, Maggie Reynen had 10 digs and four kills and Erica Thompson had eight digs and eight assists.

Hanson (19-1) plays at Menno on Tuesday. MCS (2-16) plays Corsica-Stickney on Tuesday in Mitchell.

Kimball/White Lake 3, Parkston 0

PARKSTON -- Kimball/White Lake swept Parkston 25-21, 27-25 and 25-23 in prep volleyball action on Thursday in Parkston.

Carly Beckmann, Darby Deffenbaugh and Sara Kunnari paced the WiLdKats with eight kills apiece. Beckmann and Kunnari each had a block, while Kunnari had two aces. Deffenbaugh added 20 digs and two aces. Heather Munsen had a double-double with 16 digs and 22 assists. Catie Natvig added 13 digs.

For Parkston, Paige Semmler had a double-double with 12 kills and 29 digs. Sammi Murtha had four kills, seven digs and 10 assists. Faith Rands recorded 31 digs and Brenna Walz had five kills and one block.

KWL (16-3) plays at Miller on Monday. Parkston (9-11) plays Wagner on Tuesday in Parkston.  

SCW 3, TDA 0


WOONSOCKET -- Sanborn Central/Woonsocket swept Tripp-Delmont/Armour 25-18, 25-20 and 26-24 in a high school volleyball match on Thursday in Woonsocket.

Tesa Jensen powered SCW with seven kills and three blocks. Erica Howard and Sarah Morgan both had six kills apiece. Morgan added three aces. Abby Doering notched two blocks and four aces. Tristan Ziebart had 19 assists and 13 digs. Alissa Ball added 16 digs.

For TDA, Erica Koster registered three kills, six aces, 14 digs and 19 assists. Matti Reiner had seven kills, while Brianna Stoebner finished with four kills and 11 digs. Ripley Schafers had three kills and eight digs.

SCW (13-6) plays James Valley Christian on Tuesday in Huron. TDA (5-11) plays Burke/South Central on Saturday in Armour.  

MCM 3, West Central 2

HARTFORD -- McCook Central/Montrose rallied past West Central 3-2 in a high school volleyball match on Thursday in Hartford. Set scores were 20-25, 24-26, 25-23, 25-16 and 15-5.

McKenna Kranz had 16 kills, Morgan Koepsell added 14 kills and two blocks and Aleah Ries finished with 13 kills, 31 digs and five aces. Emily Bies had 28 assists and Hayley Miles recorded 24 digs and 20 assists.

MCM (12-8) plays at Garretson on Tuesday. West Central (10-9) plays in the Chester Classic on Saturday in Chester.


Mount Vernon/Plankinton 3, Chamberlain 0

CHAMBERLAIN -- Mount Vernon/Plankinton swept Chamberlain 25-20, 25-13 and 25-23 in prep volleyball action on Thursday in Chamberlain.  

Regan Klooz had four aces and 15 assists, Hailey Waltz had three aces, seven assists and 10 digs and Destiney Haak recorded 10 kills and two aces. Camie Waltz added 25 digs.

For Chamberlain, Hannah Anderson had two aces and five kills, while Paige Reuer had five aces, seven kills and four blocks. McKenzie Sorensen had two blocks and two assists and Jamie Pazour had 14 digs.

MVP (9-9) plays at Wagner on Monday. Chamberlain (5-13) plays at Winner on Tuesday.  

Winner 3, White River 0

WINNER -- Abby Marts’ double-double propelled Winner past White River 3-0 in a high school volleyball match on Thursday in Winner. Set scores were 25-8, 25-13 and 25-10.

Marts recorded 17 kills, 12 digs and one ace, Alexis Richey had 20 digs and two aces, Morgan Hammerbeck added 10 kills, 12 digs and one ace and Addy Root had 34 assists, nine digs and two aces.

Winner (13-5) plays in the Chester Classic on Saturday in Chester. White River (7-17) plays Colome on Thursday in White River.  

Bridgewater-Emery 3, Avon 2

EMERY -- After winning the first two sets, the Bridgewater-Emery volleyball fended off an Avon rally to win the fifth set and earn a 3-2 win on Thursday in Emery. Set scores were 25-20, 25-14, 16-25, 20-25 and 15-11.  

Sydney Hoffman led the Huskies with 17 kills and two blocks, while Haley Schultz added 10 kills and one block and Katelyn Kotas chipped in 24 digs and six kills. Joslyn Schrank had 22 digs and one ace and Sophia Potter added 14 digs and 22 assists in the win.

For Avon, Cheylee Nagel had 23 digs and nine digs, while Lauren Sees had 13 digs and Livi Jurrens had seven kills, three aces and two blocks.

Avon (9-9) plays at Freeman on Thursday. Bridgewater-Emery (10-10) plays Freeman Academy/Marion on Monday in Marion.  

Parker 3, Scotland 0

SCOTLAND -- No. 5-ranked Parker powered past Scotland 25-17, 25-8 and 25-18 in prep volleyball action on Thursday in Scotland. Hannah Viet had 10 kills and three blocks, Grace Leberman added eight kills, two digs and one ace and Hannah Even had 26 assists and an ace for the Pheasants.

For Scotland, Taylor Gall recorded 13 kills, 16 digs, two blocks and one assist for a double-double, while Taylor Bietz had 22 assists, 19 digs and three kills and Brittney Bauder added 29 digs.

Parker (19-5) plays in the Chester Classic on Saturday in Chester. Scotland (1-14) plays Bon Homme on Tuesday in Scotland.  

Wessington Springs 3, Highmore-Harrold 1

HIGHMORE -- Maddie Neely recorded 20 kills, nine digs and two blocks as Wessington Springs beat Highmore-Harrold 25-19, 25-15, 19-25 and 25-21 in prep volleyball action on Thursday in Highmore.

Piper Jones had four aces, Cadee Schelske had 12 assists and Karsyn Krause recorded four kills for the Spartans. For Highmore-Harrold, Halle Tvedt had 13 kills and Zoe Tvedt recorded 11 kills and two blocks.

Wessington Springs (5-10) plays Sunshine Bible Academy on Tuesday in Wessington Springs. Highmore-Harrold (7-12) plays Wolsey-Wessington on Tuesday in Wolsey.  

Platte-Geddes 3, Gregory 1

GREGORY -- Tori Weins had 10 kills, three solo blocks and six digs, as Platte-Geddes earned a road, four-set win at Gregory Thursday in high school volleyball action. The Black Panthers won 10-25, 25-17, 25-15 and 25-16.

Carly Sprik had eight kills and three aces, while Courtney Neuman tacked on 27 set assists for P-G. Megan Warnke had 14 kills, 13 digs and two blocks, while Jaslee Kerner had 13 digs and two aces for Gregory.

Platte-Geddes (6-10) plays Miller on Tuesday in Platte. Gregory (10-9) plays at Colome on Tuesday.

Canistota 3, Howard 2

HOWARD -- Canistota edged Howard 3-2 in a high school volleyball match on Thursday in Howard. Set scores were 17-25, 25-18, 25-22, 19-25 and 15-8.

Mikenzie Kirby had 16 kills and 31 digs for a double-double, while Noelle Hofer had 14 kills, two aces and one block. Hannah Parry had 28 assists and Cassidy Keller recorded 31 digs for the Hawks. For Howard, Citori Rentz had 27 kills, 19 digs and 11 assists, while Hilary Albrecht had 19 kills and Cailey Hinker recorded 20 digs in the loss.

Canistota (15-4) plays Iroquois on Monday in Canistota. Howard (6-13) plays at Baltic on Oct. 17.  

Menno 3, Gayville-Volin 2

MENNO -- Menno earned a five-set win over Gayville-Volin 25-18, 20-25, 17-25, 25-22 and 15-13 in a high school volleyball game on Thursday in Menno.

Paige Heckenlaible had 12 kills, 27 digs, four blocks and three assists, Ashton Vaith recorded a match-high 52 digs, 10 kills and one ace. Hailey Fergen added 19 assists, 17 digs and one kill and Eisley Sayler had nine kills, 12 digs, two aces and one block for the Wolves. For Gayville-Volin, Lanny Clark had 25 kills and 29 digs and Molly Larson had 34 digs.

Menno (8-7) hosts Hanson on Tuesday in Menno. Gayville-Volin (4-14) plays Canton on Tuesday in Gayville.
