Area football roundup: Warriors pull past Cavaliers

WINNER -- Winner held St. Thomas More scoreless in the middle quarters in a 36-13 win to advance to the Class 11B semifinals.

The Warriors racked up 431 yards, including 398 on the ground. Trevor Peters gained 136 yards and scored three touchdowns, while Sam Kruger (130) and Phillip Jorgensen (122) both topped 100 yards on the ground. Jorgensen also caught a 38-yard touchdown from Brady Fritz. Landon Thieman led the Warriors with eight tackles, with Peters and Preston Norrid each racking up six tackles.

Ryder Kirsch went 19-for-32 for 194 yards and two touchdowns, as Grant Huber and Jake Goble each caught a touchdown. Goble led the team with 108 receiving yards and Huber added 87. Ryan Wojcik had a team-best 50 rushing yards. Nick Lembke added 15 tackles.

Winner (10-0) plays Webster Area in the semifinals on Nov. 8. St. Thomas More finishes the season 8-2.

BEE 33, Sioux Valley 0

BRIDGEWATER -- Brady Hawkins scored four touchdowns in three different ways and intercepted two passes as top-seeded Bridgewater-Emery/Ethan blanked Sioux Valley in the Class 11B quarterfinals.

Hawkins connected with Chase Arend on a 35-yard touchdown pass in the first quarter and then the duo hooked up once more on a 51-yard pass-and-catch to take a 13-0 lead into halftime.

The senior quarterback added a 10-yard rushing score in the third quarter and then returned an interception 25 yards for a touchdown to seal the win. He finished with 92 yards passing and 52 rushing.

Grant Andrews also added a 1-yard rushing touchdown. Jonah Hofer had 106 yards on 13 attempts.

Parker Puetz had 89 rushing yards for Sioux Valley.

The Seahawks (10-0) host McCook Central/Montrose on Nov. 8 in the Class 11B semifinals. Sioux Valley finishes the season 7-3.

Webster Area 29, MVP 22

WEBSTER -- Webster Area’s Coby Reetz ran for a game-winning 38-yard touchdown with 1 minute, 59 seconds remaining, as the Bearcats topped Mount Vernon/Plankinton in a Class 11B quarterfinal game on Thursday.


Reetz finished with 48 rushing yards. It was Braden Holland who carried the Bearcats, though. He finished with 118 yards on the ground and three touchdowns, while completing 5 of 10 passes for 98 yards. Webster Area finished with 242 yards. Defensively, Matthew Block intercepted a pass.

Jesse Hastings racked up 147 yards and two touchdowns on 16 carries for the Titans. Hunter Pranger added 53 rushing yards, six tackles and an interception on defense. Thomas Baker finished with six tackles and Gauge Hansen added seven tackles and a pair of sacks.

Webster Area (10-0) plays Winner in the semifinals on Nov. 8. MVP finishes the season 7-3.

Britton-Hecla 48, Burke 6

BRITTON -- Top-seeded Britton-Hecla scored 20 points in the third quarter to race past Burke in the Class 9A quarterfinals.

Stanley Haskins ran for 225 yards and three touchdowns for the Braves, while Aiden Fredrickson completed 2 of 8 passes, but one went for a 73-yard touchdown to Cole Fosness. Fosness also returned a punt 52 yards for a touchdown and had a 2-yard rushing score.

Hunter Van Nieuwenhuyse went 9 of 24 for 157 yards, throwing a touchdown to Ethan DeLong. He also had two interceptions. Finn Hanson had 61 yards rushing on 15 attempts.

Britton-Hecla (9-0) will host Gregory in the semifinals on Nov. 8. Burke finishes the season 8-2.

Bon Homme 55, JCWR 0

TYNDALL -- Josh Crownover threw for 150 yards, ran for 104 and accounted for seven touchdowns as Bon Homme breezed past Jones County/White River in the Class 9AA quarterfinals.


Crownover hit Riley Rothschadl on a 57-yard touchdown pass and Connor Peters on a 54-yard scoring strike in the first quarter, while also adding a 66-yard touchdown run in the frame. He also caught a 17-yard pass from Rothschadl.

Joe Sayler had 63 rushing yards on 21 attempts.

Bon Homme (9-1) hosts Deuel on the semifinals on Nov. 8. Jones County/White River finishes the season 5-5.

MCM 37, Mobridge-Pollock 8

MOBRIDGE -- McCook Central/Montrose racked up 523 yards and scored 29 unanswered points in a Class 11B quarterfinal win.

Jacobi Krouse rushed for 298 yards and four touchdowns on 51 carries for the Fighting Cougars. Blake Gessner added 44 rushing yards. Raygen Randall completed 7 of 11 passes for 124 yards and a touchdown to Koltan Lindstrom, who caught six passes for 106 yards. Parker Scheier had a team-high nine tackles in the win.

Caden Halsey threw for 133 yards and a touchdown, while adding 34 yards on the ground. Reese Cerney caught Mobridge-Pollock’s lone touchdown to go with 61 receiving yards. Tucker Holzer and Cayden Eisemann finished with 16 and 15 tackles, respectively.

MCM (9-1) plays Bridgewater-Emery/Ethan in the semifinals on Nov. 8. Mobridge-Pollock finishes the season 8-2.

Canistota/Freeman 44, Wall 13

FREEMAN -- A 30-point second quarter powered Canistota/Freeman past Wall in a Class 9A quarterfinal game on Thursday.

Trey Ortman threw for 136 yards and three touchdowns, including a pair to Tyce Ortman. Tyce Ortman scored three total touchdowns and rushed for a team-high 86 yards. Blake Anderson and Isiah Robertson each scored and topped 50 yards on the ground for the Pride. Tyce Ortman led the team with nine tackles.

Enoch Cuny completed 7 of 11 passes for 108 yards, while rushing for a score. Tack Tines gained 58 yards on three rushes and caught two passes for 41 yards. Defensively, Cedar Amiotte added five tackles.

Canistota/Freeman (9-1) plays Sully Buttes in the semifinals on Nov. 8. Wall finishes the season 7-3.

Wolsey-Wessington 50, Scotland 0

WOLSEY -- Wolsey-Wessington pitched a shutout in a Class 9B quarterfinal win over Scotland on Thursday.

Brevan Hooks and Tanner Horn finished with 12 and 11 tackles, respectively, for Wolsey-Wessington. Eric Klanchnik added 220 yards and four touchdowns on the ground, while Tristan Abbott finished with 102 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns. Ethan Nelson hauled in two passes for 71 yards.

For Scotland, Mason Dennis gained seven yards on seven carries and Ty Mogck added 13 yards. Jordan Gall finished with five tackles. Micah DeBoer and Nick Harrington each added four.

Wolsey-Wessington (8-2) plays Colman-Egan in the semifinals on Nov. 8. Scotland finishes the season 6-4.

Other notable scores

Viborg-Hurley 66, Platte-Geddes 20, in Viborg: Chase Mason had three rushing touchdowns and threw for two more, while Angel Johnson added four scores to help top-seeded Viborg-Hurley advance past Platte-Geddes in the Class 9AA semifinals. Viborg-Hurley (10-0) hosts Lemmon/McIntosh on Nov. 8. The Black Panthers finishes the season 4-6.

Pierre 103, Spearfish 0, in Pierre: Pierre hit the century mark on Thursday, as it topped Spearfish in a Class 11AA quarterfinal game. The Governors (10-0) host Mitchell on Nov. 8. Spearfish finishes the season 0-10.
