Area football roundup: Mount Vernon/Plankinton's defense dominates again

The Titans defense holds Miller/Highmore-Harrold scoreless at home. In all four wins this season, Mount Vernon/Plankinton has held each team scoreless and won by at least 42 points.

MOUNT VERNON -- Mount Vernon/Plankinton's defense had three takeaways and two sacks in the 42-0 win at home over Miller/Highmore-Harrold on Saturday.

MVP’s Reed Ruis went 3-of-4 passing for 128 yards and two touchdowns. Ruis also rushed for 41 yards on nine carries. Drew Gerlach had four carries for 67 yards while Lincoln Klooz had 10 carries for 56 yards. Chris Mayer had two receptions for 98 yards for the Titans.

For the Rustlers, Trey Knox went 3-of-11 passing for 30 yards. Tate Hoffman had 12 carries for 39 yards while Jaden Anderberg had five carries for 16 yards. Gunner Breuggeman led all players defensively with seven tackles.

Mount Vernon/Plankinton (4-1) travels to Jim River on Oct. 1. Miller/Highmore-Harrold (1-4) hosts Jim River on Sept. 24.

Parkston 50, Gregory 0

GREGORY -- Parkston racked up 428 all-purpose yards and 15 first downs in the victory on the road Saturday.


Trojans' Cole Prunty had 15 carries for 159 yards and Kaleb Weber went 4-for-8 passing for 85 yards. Brayden Jervik had one carry for 33 yards and a touchdown while Kolten Kramer had three carries for 53 yards. Max Scott also had three receptions for 69 yards.

For Gregory, Rylan Peck went 1-of-6 passing for 39 yards and Cruz Klundt went 4-of-5 passing for 11 yards. Kade Stukel had six carries for 46 yards while Owen Hansen had five rushes for 39 yards.

Parkston (3-2) travels to Bon Homme on Sept. 24. Gregory (3-2) travels to Wolsey-Wessington on Oct. 1.
