Area football roundup: Black Panthers take down Parkston

PARKSTON -- Platte-Geddes pitched a shutout on the road, as the Black Panthers ended the regular season with an 18-0 win over Parkston.

Platte-Geddes finishes the regular season 3-5, while Parkston ends 2-6.

Gregory 47, KWL 40

KIMBALL -- Class 9A No. 5 Gregory survived a shootout on the road, topping Kimball/White Lake on Friday.

Coy Determan passed for 107 yards and added 146 more on the ground, as he scored five total touchdowns in the win. Jackson Eklund finished with 50 yards and a touchdown for the Gorillas, while Luke Murray and Grant Thomas added 43 and 31 rushing yards, respectively. Determan, Tommy Determan and Thomas all intercepted a pass. Murray led the team with 13 tackles.

Caden Lenz scored three total touchdowns for the WiLdKats, which included passing for 218 yards. Justin Becker rushed for 124 yards and two scores on five carries. He also caught a pass and recorded 142 receiving yard and led the team with 10 tackles.


Gregory ends the regular season 7-1, while Kimball/White Lake finishes 5-3.

Chamberlain 36, Wagner 21

WAGNER -- A first-half shootout turned into a defensive struggle as Chamberlain and Wagner scored all 57 points in the first half.

Remington Rossow ran for 109 yards and two touchdowns on 19 attempts, while Josiah Thompson had 72 yards and a touchdown for the Cubs. Max Hawk went 6 of 14 passing for 122 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions.

K.J. St. Pierre ran for two touchdowns and threw for another for the Red Raiders.

Chamberlain finishes the regular season 5-3. Wagner finishes 2-6.

Viborg-Hurley 46 at Canistota/Freeman 20

CANISTOTA -- Class 9AA No. 1 Viborg-Hurley defeated Class 9A No. 1 Canistota/Freeman for the Cornbelt Conference championship in a battle of unbeatens Friday.

Quarterback Chase Mason led the Cougars passing for 251 yards and four touchdowns and rushing for 120 yards on 12 attempts and one touchdown. Angel Johnson had eight receptions and two touchdowns. Viborg-Hurley finished the night with 251 yards passing, 222 yards rushing for 473 total yards.

The Hawks were led by Trey Ortman, who was 8 of 19 passing for 64 yards, and Jacob Swensen, who carried the ball four times for 65 yards and a touchdown. Canistota/Freeman had 64 yards passing and 184 yards rushing for 248 total yards.


Canistota/Freeman ends the regular season at 7-1, while Viborg-Hurley finishes at 8-0.

Menno/Marion 64, Avon 24

AVON -- Menno/Marion exploded for a 64-point game to top Avon on Friday in a Great Plains Conference game.

Gavin Pankratz completed seven passes for 236 yards and four touchdowns, with Austin Kessler rushing for three more during his 234-yard day. Josh Heckenlaible caught two touchdowns and recorded 95 yards, while Danny Cremer led the Razorbacks with 98 receiving yards. Cremer and Jayden Lemons both intercepted a pass, too.

Riley Rucktaeschel threw for 261 yards and two scores on 18-for-36 passing. Kory DeJong rushed for 43 yards and a touchdown. Logan Schuurmans caught three passes for 105 yards and Brady Bierema hauled in a pair of touchdowns. Lincoln Thury led the team with nine tackles.

Menno/Marion concludes the regular season 2-6, while Avon finishes 0-8.

MCM 63, Redfield 6

REDFIELD -- McCook Central/Montrose gained 314 yards, including 163 on the ground, in a 50-point mercy rule win over Redfield on Friday.

Raygen Randall went 5-for-5 through the air for 103 yards and two touchdowns, with Jake Cheeseman catching a 44-yard touchdown. Blake Gessner rushed for a score and added a team-high 75 rushing yards, while Trevor Hansen rushed seven times for 49 yards and three touchdowns. Cheeseman and Joe Loudenburg each had an interception for the Fighting Cougars.

Leyton Rohlfs connected with Jaden Schnabel for a 12-yard touchdown. Rohlfs threw for 96 yards. Jacob Fehlman led the Pheasants with four tackles.


MCM finishes the regular season 7-1, while Redfield ends 2-6.

MVP 54, MHH 0

MILLER -- Jesse Hastings rushed four times for 145 yards and four touchdowns to lead Class 11B No. 5 Mount Vernon/Plankinton to a 54-point mercy rule win over Miller/Highmore-Harrold in Class 11B action.

The Titans had 26 rushing attempts for 363 yards and 32 yards passing for 395 total yards. Rylee Deinert and Lincoln Klooz rushed for 69 and 63 yards, respectively. Each also scored a touchdown on the ground. Hunter Pranger led the team with seven tackles.

The Rustlers were held to 71 total yards by the MVP defense. Colby Werdel led them with nine tackles, including 1.5 for loss.

MVP finished the regular season 6-2. Miller/Highmore-Harrold finished the regular season 0-9.

Hanson 50, Irene-Wakonda 8

IRENE -- Hanson jumped to a 28-8 first quarter lead and cruised to a 50-8 win over Irene-Wakonda in a Cornbelt Conference game.

Hadley Wallace carried the ball 10 times for 73 yards for the Beavers, Reggie Slaba had 10 passing completions for 77 yards and Gavin Doyle had a 41-yard interception return for a touchdown. Hanson rushed for 243 yards and passed for 53 yards for 296 total yards.

Irene-Wakonda got its only touchdown on a Gavin Spurrell catch and run for 70 yards.

Hanson concludes the regular season 4-4, while Irene-Wakonda finishes 3-5.

Gayville-Volin 34, TDAACDC 0

GAYVILLE -- Gayville-Volin held Tripp-Delmont/Armour/Andes Central/Dakota Christian to 37 yards in a shutout win in Great Plains Conference action on Friday.

Nate Quatier completed 8 of 15 passes for 153 yards and two touchdowns, while adding two more scores on the ground. Kyle Hirsch rushed 19 times for 90 yards and recorded two total touchdowns. Andrew Gustad finished with 51 receiving yards and a touchdown on three receptions. Alex Schoenberner intercepted a pass and Robbie Cutts led the Raiders with nine tackles.

Micah Lau rushed for a team-high 21 yards for the Thunderhawks. He also added five tackles. Gabe Baas recorded four tackles and a tackle for loss.

Gayville-Volin finishes the regular season 3-5, while the Thunderhawks finish 2-6.

Centerville 36, Colome 20

CENTERVILLE -- Centerville used a 28-point first half to take down Colome in a Great Plains Conference game on Friday.

Will Kroger finished with 116 passing yards and a touchdown, while Hunter Ellis gained 89 yards and three scores on 24 attempts. Defensively, Kroger finished with three tackles.

Riley Shippy carried the ball 25 times for 104 yards and two scores for the Cowboys. Jacob Beckers caught a touchdown and Michael Supik had 13 tackles. Rhet Bertram finished with a team-high 14 tackles and had a sack. Adam Cole intercepted a pass in the loss.

The Tornadoes finish the regular season 2-6, while Colome wraps up at 1-7.

Alcester-Hudson 42, Corsica-Stickney 34

ALCESTER -- Alcester-Hudson ended the regular season with a Great Plains Conference win over Corsica-Stickney on Friday.

Logan Serck passed for 217 yards and four touchdowns and rushed for 160 yards and two touchdowns to lead Alcester-Hudson. The Cubs finished with 217 yards passing and 204 yards rushing for 421 total yards.

Brendan Wentland was 12-of-27 passing for 188 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Jaguars. Caden Van Drongelen rushed for 127 yards and a touchdown and Adam Joachim had five receptions for 104 yards and a touchdown. Corsica-Stickney had 242 yards rushing and 188 yards passing for 430 total yards.

Alcester-Hudson finishes the season 5-3, while Corsica-Stickney ends 3-5.

Howard 53, Baltic 30

HOWARD -- Howard ended the regular season 7-1 with a home Cornbelt Conference win over Baltic, thanks to three touchdown runs by Riley Genzlinger in the first quarter.

Genzlinger ran for 83 yards on 14 carries and returned an interception for a touchdown. John Callies added 60 yards and a touchdown, while Isaac Feldhaus was 5 of 9 passing for 69 yards and Jesse Schwab had a 96-yard punt return for a touchdown.

Zach Polzin was 14 of 22 for 195 yards and threw for three touchdowns for Baltic, which finishes the regular season 5-3.

Aberdeen Roncalli 16, WWSSC 6

ABERDEEN -- Aberdeen Roncalli won a defensive battle on Friday over Woonsocket/Wessington Springs/Sanborn Central.

Seth Tebay rushed for 82 yards on nine carries for WWSSC, while Cayden Slykhuis added 54 passing yards on 7-for-15 passing. WWSSC had 149 rushing yards.

Antony Martinez gained a team-high 42 rushing yards for Aberdeen Roncalli. Jackson Isakson passed for 60 yards. Chris Swallow and Maddox May each had an interception.

Aberdeen Roncalli finishes the regular season 3-5, while WWSSC ends 3-6.

Other area scores

BEE 64, Beresford 20 in Beresford: Class 11B No. 1 Bridgewater-Emery/Ethan took a 40-20 lead into halftime, and held on to take down Beresford on Friday. The Seahawks finish the regular season 8-0, while Beresford ended 3-5.

Philip 32, Lyman 0 in Philip: Philip held Lyman scoreless in a Friday prep football win. Philip finishes the regular season 7-1, while Lyman drops to 3-5.
