Area basketball roundup: Top-ranked Jaguars take down Colome


CORSICA -- Class B No. 1 Corsica-Stickney led by 29 points after the first quarter in a 73-29 girls basketball win over Colome on Saturday.

Corsica-Stickney (1-0): Avery Broughton stuffed the stat sheet with 19 points, 10 rebounds, six assists, five blocks and three steals for the Jaguars. Morgan DeLange added 14 points, while Alexis Tilton recorded 12 points and seven assists in the win. Raven Barse pulled down five boards, while Morgan Clites finished with four steals. The Jaguars play Avon on Tuesday in Corsica.

Colome (0-1): Makayla Shippy scored a team-high 10 points for the Cowgirls. Baylie Hoffine scored seven points. Libbie Petersek and Saydee Heath grabbed seven and five rebounds, respectively. The Cowgirls host Cody-Kilgore (Neb.) on Dec. 21.

SCW 82, SBA 15

MILLER -- Sanborn Central/Woonsocket held Sunshine Bible Academy to five points or fewer in every quarter of its girls basketball win on Saturday.

Sanborn Central/Woonsocket (1-0): Trista White finished with 18 points, four rebounds and seven steals. Trinity Boschee added 15 points, seven rebounds and four steals for the Blackhawks. Taylor Lindsey and Brooke Doering each added 10 points and eight rebounds. Kaylee White finished with seven steals, as SCW recorded 37 as a team. The Blackhawks play Hitchcock-Tulare on Tuesday in Forestburg.


Sunshine Bible Academy (0-1): Winnie Red Bird scored a team-high five points. Bethany Konechne and Abby Haun each had six rebounds. The Crusaders travel to Faulkton Area on Tuesday.

Ethan 52, Hanson 36

ALEXANDRIA -- Class B No. 5 Ethan had four players score in double figures as it took down Hanson Saturday in girls basketball action.

Ethan (1-0): Cameryn Logan led the Rustlers with 12 points and five rebounds. Hannah Bartscher recorded 12 points, too. Jessica Bartscher finished with 11 points and Maddie Miiller added 10 points in the win. The Rustlers shot 42 percent from the field. They play Andes Central/Dakota Christian on Tuesday in New Holland.

Hanson (0-1): Elizabeth Arend added 11 points and Morgan Huber finished with 10 points. Mekiah Campbell pulled down a game-high 13 rebounds. The Beavers travel to Menno on Dec. 20.

ACDC 51, Platte-Geddes 37

PLATTE -- Andes Central/Dakota Christian took down Platte-Geddes in girls basketball action on Saturday.

Andes Central/Dakota Christian (1-0): Allison Muckey finished with 16 points and four assists. Mackenzie Muckey added 13 points, four rebounds and three assists. Lexie VanderPol also scored eight points and grabbed eight boards. Isabel Pheifer led the team with 12 rebounds to go with four steals. Josie Brouwer finished with four steals. The Thunder play Ethan on Tuesday in New Holland.

Platte-Geddes (0-1): Cadence Van Zee finished with 15 points, 12 rebounds and five steals. Karly VanDerWerff recorded a team-high 12 rebounds. Haley Hoffman added nine points and two assists.

PARKER -- McCook Central/Montrose didn’t allow a point in the first quarter during its girls basketball win over Parker on Saturday.


McCook Central/Montrose (1-0): Jacy Pulse paced the Fighting Cougars with 14 points, seven assists, five rebounds and two steals. Madisen Koepsell added 23 points, nine rebounds and two steals. Abigail Van Ruler recorded 15 points, eight rebounds, eight blocks and two steals in the win. Ashtyn Wobig grabbed eight boards. The Fighting Cougars play Freeman on Tuesday in Montrose.

Parker (0-1): Alexis Even finished with 11 points and seven steals. Rayna Mohr led the Pheasants with five rebounds. The Pheasants host Baltic on Tuesday.

Howard 76, Lemmon 50

SIOUX FALLS -- Howard opened its season with a 26-point win over Lemmon in the Barefoot Classic at the Sanford Pentagon on Saturday.

Howard (1-0): Jake Brooks recorded a 23-point, 12-rebound double-double for the Tigers. Tisyn Spader added 18 points and seven boards, while Sam Aslesen finished with 13 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists. Colton Spader grabbed nine rebounds. The Tigers travel to Chester Area on Tuesday.

Lemmon (0-2): Jaden Kelley finished with 18 points, five rebounds, three steals and two blocks for the Cowboys. Cody Thompson and Peyton Anderson added nine and eight points, respectively. Anderson also recorded five rebounds. The Cowboys host Grant County (N.D.) on Friday.

Scotland 57, Wakpala 42

SIOUX FALLS -- Scotland picked up its first boys basketball win of the season on Saturday over Wakpala in the Barefoot Classic at the Sanford Pentagon.

Scotland (1-1): Ty Mogck scored 28 points on 8-for-19 shooting and 4-for-7 3-point shooting for the Highlanders. He also grabbed nine rebounds and recorded four steals. Mason Dennis had a 12-point, 10-rebound double-double. Keenan Souhrada finished with six points and three steals. Carson Sundleaf added seven boards. The Highlanders play Bon Homme on Friday in Tyndall.

Wakpala (0-1): Tracey Brown finished with 21 points, six rebounds and four steals. Chasten Howard added nine points, six rebounds and three steals. Tristen Yellow Hammer had a team-high eight boards.


Platte-Geddes 76, ACDC 36

PLATTE -- Platte-Geddes pulled away in the second quarter and never looked back in a boys basketball win over Andes Central/Dakota Christian on Saturday.

Platte-Geddes (1-0): Caden Foxley recorded a team-high 22 points to go with three steals. Kelby VanDerWerff added 16 points and Weston VanderPol recorded 10 points. Will Miller added five assists and Brody Boltjes finished with three steals in the win. The Black Panthers play Burke on Thursday in Platte.

Andes Central/Dakota Christian (1-0): Jaeson Garcia recorded 15 points and nine rebounds Tyler Swanson chipped in with a double-double of 11 points and 14 rebounds. Parker Vander Pol finished with seven points and three steals. The Thunder play Ethan on Tuesday in New Holland.

MENNO -- Led by Micah Lau’s game-high 26 points, Tripp-Delmont/Armour opened its season with a boys basketball win over Menno on Saturday.

Tripp-Delmont/Armour (1-0): Lau also recorded a team-high seven steals and three assists. Logan Van Pelt finished with 12 points and six steals, while Carson Koehn added 10 points, seven rebounds and five steals. Kandon Bialas dished out a trio of assists. The Nighthawks travel to Parkston on Tuesday.

Menno (0-1): Trey Spencer finished with 10 points. Josh Heckenlaible dished out four assists. The Wolves host Bridgewater-Emery on Thursday.

Parkston 76, Avon 41

AVON -- Parkston scored a combined 48 points in the second and third quarters to get past Avon in a boys basketball game on Saturday.

Parkston (1-0): Braden Bruening finished with 21 points and seven rebounds for the Trojans. Rylan Leischner added 12 points, while Nathan Boettcher recorded nine points. Nate Doering grabbed nine rebounds to go with three assists. The Trojans host Tripp-Delmont/Armour on Tuesday.

Avon (0-1): Logan Schuurmans scored a team-high 17 points to go with six rebounds for the Pirates. Ashton Frank finished with eight points and eight rebounds. Kory DeJong pulled down four boards. The Pirates play Corsica-Stickney on Tuesday in Corsica.

MILLER -- Sanborn Central/Woonsocket held off Sunshine Bible Academy’s fourth-quarter rally to notch a boys basketball win on Saturday.

Sanborn Central/Woonsocket (1-0): Noah Dickson led the Blackhawks with 17 points, seven rebounds and two steals. Tater Moody finished with 16 points, seven rebounds and six steals. Cayden Slykhuis and Mason Moody added eight and seven points, respectively. The Blackhawks play Hitchcock-Tulare on Tuesday in Forestburg.

Sunshine Bible Academy (0-1): Jade Burma scored 20 points and nine rebounds. Daniel Kegbeh finished with eight points and 10 rebounds, while E.J. Big Eagle added nine points and nine boards. The Crusaders travel to Faulkton Area on Tuesday.

PARKER -- Parker had four double-digit scorers, guiding it past McCook Central/Montrose in a boys basketball game on Saturday.

Parker (1-0): Kaden Pesicka had 17 points. Carter Robertson and Davin Fuller each scored 16 points for the Pheasants. Fuller also added nine rebounds and two blocks, while Robertson recorded six rebounds and two steals. Colby Olson finished with 12 points and six boards. The Pheasants host Baltic on Tuesday.

McCook Central/Montrose (0-1): Koltan Lindstrom had a 22-point, 13-rebound double-double for the Fighting Cougars. Isaac McCormick added 16 points and two steals. Gavin Gordon finished with four points and six rebounds. The Fighting Cougars play Hanson on Tuesday in Alexandria.

WESSINGTON SPRINGS -- Faulkton Area held Wessington Springs to 32 percent shooting in a boys basketball win on Saturday.

Faulkton Area (1-0): Bennett Cassens scored a game-high 20 points. Derek Heitmann added 17 points, eight rebounds, four assists and two steals. Nick Schlechter recorded 13 points, 14 rebounds and four assists. The Trojans host Sunshine Bible Academy on Tuesday.

Wessington Springs (0-1): Mason Schelske and Tyler Kole both scored 12 points. Jacob Messmer just missed a double-double with nine points, 14 rebounds, four steals and three blocks. The Spartans play Hitchcock-Tulare on Thursday in Hitchcock.
